Epic valve cover ventilation.
6/7/2009 2:02:44 PM
what is the 26liter.com shit
6/7/2009 4:44:37 PM
:fail:i know that v6 isn't great but... it can make 450whp with way less lag than an sr can...
6/7/2009 5:39:48 PM
I have to respect any fool who can swap any motor under that tiny little bonnet.
6/7/2009 5:47:27 PM
yeah... too bad he boosted the ccv
6/7/2009 9:53:20 PM
^^^ not to mention more torque. i agree it's a backwards step.
6/7/2009 11:36:02 PM
ill agree that there is no replacement for displacement, but that sr will hold power and boost way better that vg ever will, stock. not to mention the reliability of the sr is about 50 times better. Imo

6/8/2009 1:12:38 AM
i thought the vgs had cooling issues.

VG30E is a great engine...I've seen many go over 300k and some 400k. And the internals didn't change a whole lot going to the DE.The bad thing about it is it's a 12 valve engine with little breathing room up top. Still, good boost can cure a lot of that. The only cooling issues that the Z31s really have stem from that damn radiator arrangement...and probably air pockets in the cooling system.I would never stoop to putting an SR in a Z31. I'll have to admit, throwing on new turbo stuff on a VG is a lil bit of a bitch, given that there's no room. And not much room for a good front mount intercooler either. Just not a big win-win any way you cut it.
6/8/2009 12:05:09 PM
^ the vq is a great motor... the vg.... is good but not great... and the vq bottom end still has its issues... my problem with v6s is most have less main bearings than 4 bangers... fuck that... inline 6 ftw.
6/8/2009 2:04:57 PM
^Well, that is a very good argument. Straight 6 is a wonderful design, but still has its limitations...namely a lower resonant frequency of the crank. I still think that the VG is a rock-solid engine...and a very capable one. Seriously, how many of them do you ever hear about spinning the bottom end bearings? I've not worked on one yet.
6/8/2009 3:57:42 PM
is it true a dimple the size of a golf ball dimple in the oil pan will cause the pick up to not function properly? note- only a few old timers will understand this.
6/8/2009 5:37:48 PM
^ lol
6/8/2009 5:43:41 PM
I used to have a 1997 Nissan 200SX SE-R w/ the SR20DE in it... wish I would have done more with it, great car, incredible stock engine, virtually indestructible.
6/9/2009 1:26:40 PM
^^^damn it, you stole my post.
6/10/2009 10:47:53 PM
^haha i was hoping i was not the only one. for the record i would never put that 4 banger in that heavy of a sled. it didnt take much to make the v6 go.
6/11/2009 3:30:18 PM
^5 lol. Ah, jsquared...
6/11/2009 3:34:39 PM
I don't get it
6/11/2009 3:53:38 PM
is jj's topic still around. i searched and cant find it. it should be stickied at the top for all newbs to read.
6/11/2009 6:07:09 PM
^I think it was the multi-page 240sx threadit doesn't show up on the search anymore so it may be long gone
6/11/2009 6:23:25 PM
whatever happened to JJ? I met him once. pretty strange.
6/11/2009 7:45:31 PM
i think he got promoted at burger king from fry flipper to manager and was able to buy the anniversary addition of the 240z and since stays in the garage all day to spooge over it..... no come to think of it he probably is in his moms basement playing dungeons and dragons with his booger eating friends. i did see the screen name over are panthershuddle.com not long ago. maybe he is there arguing over nothing.
6/11/2009 9:25:09 PM
he's now a marine. drives an s2000 and is here in charlotte. I see him once in a blue moon.[Edited on June 11, 2009 at 9:42 PM. Reason : still has his 240sx.. still a work in progress]
6/11/2009 9:41:57 PM
last i heard, JJ enlisted in the USMC, but I don't know any more than that. if anyone knows his full name, i could probably look him up.
6/11/2009 9:42:37 PM
damn another sucker bought a slow2000. that brings our total to 103
6/11/2009 9:51:32 PM
I think its funny that they are all hyped as the light weight car of awesomeness..... when an e-30 325i weighs less and has a back seat... and a trunk... and an inline six....
6/12/2009 12:15:17 AM
And it's notably shorter. And notably narrower. And notably less stiff. And has no airbags.etc., etc., etc.Apples to oranges is all I'm saying.Light is relative. Did you see the C&D convertible comparo this month? The lightest car in there was a Boxster S at 3200ish pounds. I think the 3.5L Z4 was in the 3600 lb neighborhood. Crazy, but that's the world we're living in in 2009. By comparison, that makes the S2k pretty lightweight.
6/12/2009 12:53:23 AM
6/12/2009 8:05:48 AM
i still think safty features should be options... not mandatory.... i don't want airbags or a car thats front end is heavier and crumples in a 25 mph collision so i don't get a stiff neck.I don't get that a motorcycle is legal for me to drive but a lightweight sports car without 700lbs in safety features is out of the question unless its a modified old car or a kit car.[Edited on June 12, 2009 at 8:25 AM. Reason : .]
6/12/2009 8:23:09 AM
^^^for what its worth the e30 325i is no lighter than an s2000 (its actually heavier). for only 1000-2000$ its hard to argue with it as a platform. It has an inline 6 buts its a very very very very dated inline 6. sohc 170hp, lol? it doesnt even make any more torque. It's hard to compete when your 20 years old. Again for the money I don't think you can beat it. If you were making fun of the 300zx I apologize in advance.
6/12/2009 8:24:13 AM
^ I agree. I own two e30's right now although I should have sold one of them months ago.[Edited on June 12, 2009 at 8:28 AM. Reason : l]
6/12/2009 8:27:52 AM
This ALWAYS happens. Just because it looks old it must be light.
6/12/2009 8:31:29 AM
6/12/2009 8:34:11 AM
2500lbs-2900lbs depending on options seems to be the numbers i'm seeing for e30s
6/12/2009 8:35:34 AM
You can buy a car and take the stuff out if that's what you want to do. There are plenty of 2000lb cars FWD and RWD to choose from if that is your goal.
6/12/2009 8:36:49 AM
shoulda put a DF(#JASY^#HSN in it
6/24/2009 11:56:25 AM
good idea on the evac but probably should have put it downstream of the turbo..in the exhaust
