I mean, there is lots of noir-influenced/neo-noir stuff these days.Michael Mann (Thief, Heat, Collateral), Coen Bros. (Blood Simple, Fargo,The Man Who Wasn't There), Christopher Nolan (following, memento). Brick was pretty noirish.I never saw The Good German. From what I've heard, it has the style down but not the storytelling. That's probably the closest to what you're looking for, but I don't know if it's "decent".Dark City and Blade Runner have Noir elements. As do some of David Lynch's films.L.A. Confidential has noirish story and characters, but from what I understand it made a point tostray from noirish cinematography. I haven't seen it in a while.[Edited on June 6, 2009 at 10:14 AM. Reason : .]

I would have thought Delicatessen or Basic Instinct would fit on that list somewhere low.[Edited on June 6, 2009 at 11:14 PM. Reason : Hell, even Heat. That's a good movie about the evils of life and people.]
6/6/2009 11:13:11 PM
ya I mentioned heat. And yeah, Basic Instinct for sure. Haven't seen Delaljksjtcasetessen.
6/6/2009 11:23:48 PM
Saw Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in the list posted above. That's a really awesome movie, not sure on how noir it is. Also Blue Velvet was pretty disturbing. I like some of Lynch's stuff, that was just a little too wow for me.
6/6/2009 11:25:08 PM
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is great and it definitely has noir elements. and pokes fun at the same time.I heart Blue Velvet?PABST BLUE RIBBON!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbxGgCY9PKw[Edited on June 6, 2009 at 11:31 PM. 6/6/2009 11:30:50 PM
well Blue Velvet was definitely better than Inland Empire. It had good moments, but overall I just didn't care for it.
6/6/2009 11:38:31 PM
I haven't seen inland empire. I should though, I wrote a damn paper on Lynch.blue velvet is better than most things.[Edited on June 6, 2009 at 11:40 PM. Reason : .]

He was pretty subpar in Killshot, which I watched the other day, unfortunately. Although there wasn't much about that movie that wasn't subpar. It spent like 3 years in post production being raped by everyone who got their hands on it. Yet it remains watchable somehow. Not particularly good, but watchable. Mickey Rourke is decent as an indian hitman, lol. And Thomas Jane is always fun.
6/6/2009 11:43:01 PM
^as much as we disagree about voice over and burn notice I agree with most of what you said about Killshot. I guess maybe I wouldn't have been disappointed if I hadn't had higher expectations for the movie, I figured Elmore Leonard plus a great cast would equal awesome but it didn't really work out that way. It was certainly watchable though.
