Thoughts? Nope.

ew
5/28/2009 2:11:35 PM
lol, is this a joke? Its probably the shittiest car sold today.
5/28/2009 2:17:56 PM
just get a nittro with the 20" hub caps bro
5/28/2009 2:20:29 PM
I suggest you look slightly to the left of the Impala, where you will find the Malibu. Good styling, great looking interiors, ~250 HP from the V6 in the LTZ model, won several awards. If you can live with a slightly smaller vehicle, it's a *much* better choice.
5/28/2009 2:23:12 PM
Or you could just go with something that costs the same or less while offering better performance, reliability, looks and comfort.I'd stay away from that American shitsack and go for something else son. Of course, what do I know son? I told people in chit chat that clutches are found in transmissions son. GASP son. GASP.]

SaabTurbo's postings are getting lamer than 69's
5/28/2009 3:07:05 PM
the Malibu was another I considered...I figured since I had a Chevy to trade in, I would maybe get another Chevy...my main concerns are good gas mileage and something with some nice features
5/28/2009 3:09:48 PM
i test drove a malibu w/ the mother in law, seemed like a very nice car. don't know what your budget is but the fusion is pretty slick as well.
5/28/2009 3:15:42 PM
A 1-2 year old Malibu is not only a great car, but it's in a very sweet spot of reliability/price ratio at this point.
5/28/2009 3:21:44 PM
^^^don't get an Impala, go for the Malibu! I'm pretty sure they're almost identical in size anyway. The Impala is the worst car I've ever driven, in my life.
5/28/2009 3:30:20 PM
good to hear some opinions...from chevy's website, it appeared the impala was kind of a souped up malibu, but maybe the only thing better in the impala is the engine which isn't a make/break point with me anyway
5/28/2009 3:54:54 PM
They're actually not closely related. The Impala is based on the W platform (shared with vehicles like the Buick LaCrosse), which was heavily updated in 2004 but dates back to the 1988 Grand Prix/Regal/Cutlass models. The Malibu is based on the Epsilon platform, shared with the Saturn Aura and Pontiac G6, which was new for 2002. So it's a newer and almost universally regarded as better platform. There may be some commonality of engines, not really sure, though I don't think you can get a 4-cylinder Impala and you can't get the 5.3 V8 in the Malibu. Though the V8 Impala is attractive from a horsepower standpoint, the Malibu LTZ is a better car in pretty much every other regard.Do bear in mind that we're talking about the 2008 and up Malibus. The 2007 and older models, while on the same basic platform, were nowhere near as nice.

I had a new Impala for a rental recently. Was a POS, huge trunk though.
5/28/2009 4:29:22 PM

fkn dbl pst[Edited on May 28, 2009 at 4:41 PM. Reason : .]
^^if you do, please find out what type of taillight bulb that car has. it's an led bulb that works well in the reflector housing. the ltz is the only model that comes with the led bulb.

i'm well aware of how baller the old mid-60s impalas were, i just didnt realize the most recent ones were so shitty!^^i'll try to remember
5/28/2009 9:20:04 PM
this is a fucking awful idea.there are at least 5 other cars that you can spend less money on that are going to be better in every possible aspect.

^i hear you, but if we're strictly talking chevy...
5/28/2009 9:45:51 PM
why?
5/28/2009 9:46:20 PM
5/28/2009 9:51:33 PM
^Just to make you aware, the Malibu hybrid is the most half assed hybrid ever created. Its a freaking joke, and definitely not worth the money...unless you get money back from the gov't.
5/28/2009 10:38:13 PM
^I've heard the same thing. Great as a conventional car, not so good as a hybrid. That test (one done in C&D) actually said that the best midsize hybrid on the market right now was the new hybrid Fusion actually, IIRC, beating the Camry, Malibu, and Altima hybrids.
5/29/2009 12:19:37 AM
test drove an LTZ...not bad, handled pretty well, fairly smooth ride...engine compartment is crammed but i guess thats most vehicles nowadays...mechanics nowadays need a computer science background...dunno if its the vehicle for measked dude about the LED signals, he didn't know anything about them
5/29/2009 3:18:56 PM
^how much was the one you test drove?
5/29/2009 3:32:14 PM
about 30k but about 25k after all the rebates
5/29/2009 3:39:32 PM
I work with rental cars and drive Impalas (and Malibus) all the time, the Impala is not the worst car on the lot but it's not far above it. They tend to have mechanical issues, the interior is rather ugly (especially w/o leather seats), it drives alright and for some reason I notice it turns really well in tight spaces like parking lots compared to other cars...lol The Impala SS is better but still wouldn't recommend it over, say a Pontiac G8.Malibu is a GREAT car for the value, great styling/interior/features, drives really well, good gas mileage, etc.[Edited on May 29, 2009 at 7:47 PM. The man brings up a good point. If you're willing to expand to other makes whilst staying in the GM "family", it would be a great idea to take a spin in a G8 and see how you like it. The brand may be going away, but I'm guessing you could get service done at a Chevy dealership if you needed. Though the fact that it doesn't share a platform with anything else GM makes for US sales could mean slow parts availability down the road...

impala SS is fun but all the other impalas suck ass. i love the impala ss but for that money you could get a better/more fun car.
6/1/2009 3:58:23 AM
^^^I'd bet even money the G8 turns into some future Chevy (Impala would make the most sense actually, lol). All the Impala SS is, is proof that a FWD car can't handle the power from a 5.3L V8.
