A friend of mine has a 2001 Mazda 626 V6. Damn EGR valve is throwing a code. He cant past inspections......which means he cant renew his tags.....which mean etc......

Where is the damn EGR valve at on this car? Mazda crammed the V6 in there and I cant find it.

He has a couple of options:

1 - take to shop for $700 (precision autotune quote)
2 - find a shady inspection place (like i did for my tint)
3 - the old resistor in the egr harness trick.

If I could find the valve I coupe stick that resistor in the harness and that usually works...atleast it does on nissans.

If it is the same as the 2000, it isn't terribly hard to get to. However, when we did ours last we cleaned it out really well-- drove it enough for it to be able to be inspected & then it threw the damn code again as we were pulling away from the shop. hahaha
Oh well- another year down

There's lots of information about it on mazda forums-- don't have the links readily available on this computer, though. Good luck.

one thing i've noticed with my higher-end OBD II scanner (the nicer Actron one you can get at Advance): you can view whether the car is ready for an OBD II test. And often that is in as little as 40-50 miles (depending on how you have been driving it), and whatever is wrong with your shit won't throw a code until like 200
