I dont have a CC, dont really want a CC; but after taking a trip to Ohio this weekend, I realized that it wouldnt be a terrible idea to have one in case of emergencies and also being used to put accounts on hold(I had to put a $200 hold for a rental car)so what are the good ones out there now? advise me on rates, plans, benefits etc.I KNOW I will hardly ever use it to pay for anything, Im very strict with my money...but when I do I want it to benefit me as best as possible.thanks

I've had chase freedom for a couple of years and its a pretty decent rewards card. I usually just use for it for gas and groceries, which you get 3% cash back onI haven't looked at their rates recently, mine is 7.9%

what is your credit like? If you have fantastic credit you options are a lot more diverse than if you have good or poor credit. I'm assuming you have not established credit yet by your question/statement. You are going to be very limited. Just get one through your bank.

^^yea chase freedom is a great card.^^^ any particular reason you don't want to use a credit card regularly? i'm sure you have heard it 1000x so I'm not trying to say you are in the wrong or anything, but you seem like a prime candidate for gaining an advantage by using one. I am also strict with my money and pay for nearly everything with credit cards (~$300 worth of reward money received so far this year). Obviously the key is that in 4 years of having cards I have never kept any sort of balance at all yet, but based on your current spending habits it doesnt seem like you would have a problem there.[Edited on May 26, 2009 at 3:38 PM. yeah I mean if you're good at managing money and not overspending... you're giving up money by not using a good rewards credit card

http://www.creditcards.com/This website helps you decided what credit card is best for you. I personally am trying to get rid of my credit card and you are more than welcome to take my card, my balance, my APR and payments as long as you transfer the social security attached to it I personally like the 0% APR for one year thing... But just as long as you get that thing paid off by then

Unfortunately, it's getting ready to be a less great card. They are suspending the extra 2% rewards in top spending categories AND getting rid of the option to redeem for $250 when your rewards balance reaches $200.However, there are some favorable changes, but they don't outweigh the aforementioned negatives. Accumulated rewards will no longer have any sort of expiration, and they apparently beefed up the discounts / reward incentives when you shop with approved merchants after going through their portal. Finally, I think you can start crediting cash rewards toward your balance, which is a good change.
