This show deserves its own thread, especially considering the changes ahead. Any thoughts on David Tennant leaving the show? Will it still be as good?

#1 The thread you btted was specifically about Tennant leaving the show. This thread is about the show in general that merely mentioned DT leaving in the OP. Therefore, they are two distinct threads with two distinct purposes.#2 The other thread had not been active for over a month, which means it was well off the first page. Therefore, that thread is dead to me. Here is a question. Why doesn't the Tardis translate EVERYTHING into English? For example, when the doctor says "Allons-y" ("Let's Go" in French) it doesn't translate into English. Why? This has been an issue when the doctor has met non-English characters (like the Madame de Pompadour).

In episode 2F09, when Itchy plays Scratchy's skeleton like a xylophone, he strikes the same rib twice in succession, yet he produces two clearly different tones. I mean, what are we to believe, that this is some sort of a magic xylophone or something? Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder.

Ahh, yeah. Well, whenever you notice something like that, a wizard did it.

hmmm it will be interesting to see where Smith and the writers take the new doctor.I wonder if by picking someone so young, they are implying the doctor will be looking to make a fresh start--trying to move on a bit from the Time Wars/Rose/Everything. Tennant did the brooding, hidden dark-side thing well. But I think it would be harder for someone barely in his 20s to pull off that off. The new suit is kinda neat. Can't tell if they kept the trainers. Probably not. [Edited on July 20, 2009 at 11:45 AM. Reason : ``]

It will be sort of a fresh start, but if you look at some of the photos from the sun, you'll see one character from older episodes will make an appearance

I just can't get over what a tool that guy looks like. Based on what I've seen, I'd find it difficult to take him seriously as The Doctor. However, this is just based on screenshots and initial photos I saw of the guy. Not to mention the brilliance Tennant brought to the role, which I find doubtful to be matched any time soon. I'll still give it a shot but I'll be going into it very skeptical.

i haven't watched many of the new doctor who episodes. i have the original series on vhs somewhere...i was named after: what day/time does the new doctor who come on tv??

it's gunna be hard to surpass Tennant and this new guys style seems totally bland after Tennant

^^ the latest Tennant episode premiers in the US this coming Sunday on BBCAM (channel 116 for me) at 8pmAlso, if you want to see one of the better episodes from previous seasons, check out "Blink" on SyFy next Monday at noon. That's one of my favorite Tennant episodes.[Edited on July 21, 2009 at 12:17 AM. Reason : ]

^ damn straight. Blink was one of the best ever. I believe that episode was actually based on a bit of fan fiction as well (a Dr. Who novel someone wrote a few years back).

Sarah Jane! It's so cool that you were named after her! I wasn't into Who in college so I wouldn't have made the connection then. You have *how much* of the original show on VHS? It was on for over 20 years.Sarah Jane has her own show now, btw. The Sarah Jane Adventures. It's basically a Who-themed kids show, filming its third season. She's been in the new Who a few times as well.I agree about Blink, also - and Moffat, who wrote it, is the new showrunner starting in season 5 when Davies steps down, so look forward to more awesomeness to come. And omicron, though it's embarrassing to me now, I was unsure how anyone would top Eccleston. He was the first Doctor I had really seen, except for a few stray old eps when I was a kid. I've seen some other stuff that Matt Smith has been in, and he'll be great. More of an old-style Doctor, I think, but keep in mind that this was the 3rd doctor:1, 2, and 3 together:5th doctor:That's right - celery. The Doc is supposed to be a geek.[Edited on July 21, 2009 at 12:20 PM. Reason : .]

haha the Doctor in the middle of the second pic made me immediately think ofI've seen some of the older eps. Particularly the very first story arc via Netflix. Interesting to see how the show has changed over time. Also, I saw the David Tennant Doctor before seeing Eccleston in the role so I was the opposite; I didn't see how he could be a better Doctor than Tennant. Eventually when I saw the first season I was impressed, but still glad that Tennant took over. I did read that Moffat has taken over via that link you posted so there is still hope. I still think they could've chosen a better actor for the role, but then again I said the same thing when I learned Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker. Hopefully I'll be wrong again.

I hope so too. I think he'll be great. Being tennant is not something I'd expect, but he might be great in his own way. maybe even better...
