Honestly, I take solace in the fact that I'm not from North Carolina. But I am SO ashamed that I went to the same school as this idiot.

Guaran fucking teed if he was in McCains camp you'd have already given him 109 blowjobs and invited him over for some tea and talk about Dave Ramsey.

5/14/2009 8:23:29 AM
so much stupidity in two sentences. congrats OP.
5/14/2009 8:47:14 AM
i also have an irrational desire to defend him (not that it's necessary - i don't think anyone gives a shit where he's from or where he went to school. After all, I don't recall that ever being an issue with Tony Snow or Scott McClellan). However, I don't think he's very good. I was hoping he would be more honest, and when he's not being honest, he could be a little smoother about it (like TOny Snow - that guy was a master)
5/14/2009 9:10:34 AM
Maybe my standards are high with coming from Ari Fleischer, Tony Snow and C. J. Cregg (yeah, I know). I thought President Obama would have picked someone better for the position. However, seeing who he (first) picked for Commerce, HHS, and some other Cabinet positions, I would say that hindsight is 20/20.But he is still...not very good at his job (but look what he has to work with).Maybe I sympathize with him only because he does put a pretty accurate face on the administration: clueless.
5/14/2009 9:21:10 AM
You're such a partisan hack it isn't even funny. There is nothing materially different about Gibbs than any of Bush's picks. Nothing. They all give partial information, act smarmy with the press, and pretend they don't know shit that they really do.For fucks sake, you have high standards based on two of his picks, but you left off turncoat McClellan (who was better than all of them), and Perino (who makes Gibbs look sage), and included a fucking fictional TV character? Are you kidding? Just get the hell away from the soap box or anywhere near a political discussion.[Edited on May 14, 2009 at 10:31 AM. Reason : .]

I thought this was a thread about that guy named Gibbs from NCIS.i fucking hate that guy.
5/14/2009 11:03:36 AM
i haven't been following, but what has robert gibbs done that was so bad?is it just because he's a democrat?
5/14/2009 12:33:17 PM
i don't know. he was the public face on the reneging of releasing more torture pics. and in that there was apparently some business with reporters' cell phones going off in the middle of a televised briefing.
5/14/2009 12:35:11 PM
Maybe you guys haven't seen any of the press conferences he's held, so that's why you don't see him as incompetent. Take his response to the VP's swine flu/subway comment, or the NYC flyover of the Air Force One lookalike, or him singling out Rick Santelli or Jim Cramer.Maybe it isn't his fault that he isn't given all of the information and therefore looks like he doesn't know what's going on during the press briefings.
5/14/2009 5:52:49 PM
Concerning reporters' questions about the Air Force One New York flyover:
5/14/2009 6:53:39 PM
so it isn't just me then?
5/14/2009 7:21:59 PM
no, it's not just you. Simply put, Gibbs does not do an effective job of getting across the Administration's messages, and he is clearly not a natural when put on the spot and is under pressure. Back to Tony Snow - I think he was a liar, and he willingly and knowingly lied for the Bush administration - but he was damned good at it, which to a degree makes for a good press secretary. I would prefer, of course, honestly from the WH, but as long as you're going to spew bullshit, you might as well get someone like Snow, who was a master bullshitter. Unlike McClellan, who was obviously very uncomfortable most of the time with what he was saying, and Gibbs, who is just not very good at portraying a good, competent face on the WH.
5/14/2009 7:26:59 PM
The press secretary is the mouthpiece for the administration, be it the truth or lies, the words aren't his. The delivery is his.Robert Gibbs is less than competent in that department. The fact that a reporter, rather than turning his phone in, walked out of the white house press briefing while talking on the cell phone, shows how ridiculously little respect they have for him. I wouldn't care if he were the secretary for President Jesus Christ, I'd still say he sucks.[Edited on May 14, 2009 at 7:50 PM. 10/5/2010 4:07:07 AM
I think Gibbs sucks a big one. But I also thought it was pretty clear he stopped giving a shit right around the time he took the job. He spent the campaign responding to meaningless bullshit like whether or not Obama is a Muslim. And then you get in the White House, expecting things to be a little different, a little more presidential--you know, some stuff that the white guys got. But thing's aren't different. It's just a fucking birther movement and accusations that Obama is trying to set up death panels to kill old people. So fuck it.I don't know why hooksaw, kdogg(c), and JCASHFAN would care about him though. They want the president (whose policies they dislike) to have a better, more competent mouthpiece? Seriously though, this is dumb. You are so desperate for things to bitch about that you actually bitch about the fact that our president doesn't use a more eloquent/diplomatic speaker?

I'm somewhat serious. If you don't like the president or his policies, it seems like you would want him to have a crappy press secretary. Right? And sorry for the mixup, dawg and dogg.

Meh, I enjoy politics as sport as much as anything else and the sport politics is far more about style than policy. I like to think that I can (fairly) objectively discuss why Barack Obama was a stellar candidate while also discussing how relatively poor he is at governing without even referencing the merits of his political preferences.Politics is a game and should be viewed as such. Policy and ideology are only side-bars to the true focus of the competition.

I was anticipating your response and mentally crafting mine in advance: "SO THIS IS ALL A FUCKING GAME TO YOU?!?!?!"AHAHAHAIt's no fun when you come right out and say it. But you've said it before so I should have known anyway.[Edited on October 5, 2010 at 12:49 PM. Reason : Blah, I gotta write this paper. Bye, guys.]

It just seems like the administration does such a poor job of defending its policies. We bring up basic objections on this forum, and very few of those are ever addressed by the administration. Vagaries like "we're doing what's best for all Americans" piss me off, because Obama and his lackies never bother getting to the crux of any issue.
10/5/2010 12:52:38 PM
Going back to politics as a game . . . specificity is the enemy and vagaries are your friend. Vagueness is what made BHO so popular in 2008. In his own words:""I serve as a blank screen, on which people of vastly different political stripes project their own views. . . My treatment of the issues is often partial and incomplete."This is what won him the election. Hillary Clinton had all the policy in the world, but it meant nothing compared to the charisma of BHO (a charisma he has not effectively put into play as Chief Executive). Interestingly enough, as SecState, HRC has done far, FAR more heavy lifting than the President has in this administration.
