gateway mx6421turion 64 1.8currently has 1gb of ddr 333mhz (i'd probably max this out)5400rpm ide drive.I use Corel Painter, Photoshop, etc. regularly. Sometimes both at once/back and forth with an image and often with a bunch of browser tabs open (reference photos, etc.) Would it be able to handle that fairly well?My desktop is much better hardware wise (amd 64 x2 2.2ghz, 2GB 800mhz ddr2, raptor for OS and programs, 500gb barracuda for storage) and I don't have any problems with it at all. But I'd like a laptop so I don't always have to be in my room to use it. I can get the laptop mentioned above for about $200 used. But there's no point if it can't do what I need. This may be another option: http://raleigh.craigslist.org/sys/1162043207.htmlIntel Core Duo T2700 (2MB Cache, 2.33ghz)2GB Dual Channel DDR2 667 MHz100GB 7200RPM SATA Hard DriveIt's much closer to my desktop as far as hardware goes. I'm not keen on the size of it (bigger than I'd prefer), but otherwise i don't think it would have trouble running everything the way I'm used to.Thoughts?[Edited on May 10, 2009 at 1:59 PM. I have that dell laptop that was posted on craigslist. If battery life isn't a concern, I'd recommend it.

AMD has no business being in your computer these days, doubly so in a laptop.

^what's wrong with the AMD? I have on in my laptop (Athlon X2) and the computer has ran far cooler and hasn't "slowed down" over the past year like my other computers have. I admit I'm no expert, and maybe this is because of other factors...but that's my two cents.

AMD is behind in the processor scene right now.

Thanks smoothcrim. Battery life isn't really an issue. It will be used at my house and running a cord to an outlet isn't a problem anywhere.

I'm in the market for a laptop for my wife and haven't really begun the search yet. Looking for the best value out there in a middle of the road laptop and it won't be a desktop replacement. In the meantime, she has sent me this linkhttp://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=441160&pCatg=5680How does Dell stand these days as far as laptops go? I was under the impression the quality wasn't as great as it used to be?

i use several dell models at work fairly regularly with no problems. I wouldn't hesitate to buy dell if the specs met my needs.
