What's the best way to find available homes or townhomes for rent in the Raleigh or Cary area? So far I have been using Craigslist but their is a lot of garbage to sort through on there.

drive through the neighborhood and look for signs

I've used both of these strategies and have had no luck

^ thats the best wayalso technician. i found my last one through craigslist...just try to narrow your search terms a bit. use minuses as a search term to get rid of ads which have certain keywords (probably works with phrases too)

http://www.raleighrent.com -> good site, I found the house I'll be moving to soon on their Durham counterpart sitehttp://www.relocationhelpdesk.com/ -> also lots of possibilities. WARNING: their site does not work in firefox, you'll have to use IE. http://www.realtor.com -> not just for buying houses, you can also check rentals on there. Searchable by whole city or by zip code, which can be handy so you can narrow your search area down.Craigslist also usually has some good possibilities, oftentimes if the home/townhouse is for rent by owner and not through a property manager, they'll list on craigslist, but yes there is some garbage. You can also go directly to the web sites of some of the bigger rental companies in the area like Preiss Company, Wilson Property Management, Rhyne Realty, etc. (yes preiss is shady for their college-targeted complexes, but I rented a place near cameron village from them and had no problems in 3 years)
