Quinn's idea was a good one, I'll keep all my Lotus crap confined in here for you guys First up: Guy is selling a completely mint ExigeS tub, asking $2000. This is an insane deal for someone who wants to build up a track car Link to LotusTalk ThreadIf you built it up with all OEM parts, you could get to a track ready car for ~15k. The beauty is, with a bare tub, it's perfect to put in a Ecotec (http://www.secantvehicles.com/) for 280-350hp, or a K20A (http://www.prototyperacing.com/) for 240-300hp, OR an Audi 5, V6, or V8Or you could get really wild and throw a Corvette engine in there (there's several GT cars with LS engines)All kinds of possibilities

an lsx powered lotus would be nuts.
5/1/2009 8:56:17 PM
should have titled this Lotus Notes.Zing!
5/1/2009 9:00:32 PM
^hahahah, dude, can someone change the title to that?

Why would you want a k20A? Obviously the Yamaha Toyota motor was superior or a company the caliber of lotus would have never chose it....right?Go V6!!!![Edited on May 2, 2009 at 9:22 AM. Reason : .]

^it just happened to be the best fit for the chassis. didn't really have anything to do with the characteristics of the motor, other than physical size.
5/2/2009 5:27:29 PM
needs a hemi
5/2/2009 10:48:28 PM
well, toyota DID make hemis...
5/2/2009 11:29:29 PM
^^^I'm pretty sure that is not the true reason. I've always wondered why they chose what they did and have had a feeling it was some drama with \-/onda. It's hard to dispute their inline 4 engines. Even some of the early 90's motors are superior to the yamaha in the elises I was looking at many moons ago. Once i saw all the ariel designs with K20's it kind of had me really wonder..... Cost isnt an issue they put the thign in a 20k civic and these loti are what 60k?
5/3/2009 7:56:50 AM
so.. are car frames like bike frames? if I bought that frame, would the VIN be attached to it and I could have a clean titled car if I built on top of it
5/4/2009 12:49:19 AM
^yes^^ Honda wouldn't license the engine to Lotus. The K20A is more expensive, heavier, and larger. But mostly it was because Lotus and Yota had such a strong relationship, and didn't have direct competition.

^^^I've always regretted Lotus not going with Honda powertrains. The Honda engines are better, and the transmissions are WAY better

Oh yeah, so some guy just ran his 2007 Exige S in SCCA T2 at Laguna Seca last weekend. This year is the first year bring a SC Lotus into a SCCA class. It set new track records for T2. Probably not so good long term (if it gets bumped to T1, it'd be toward the rear of the pack), but still pretty damn impressive for the first race.Finished in 7th and 9th overall, in a field of 40 cars with only other other P2 entry (WRX STI)From his quote: "600 hp+ NSX's, full on Mustang, Panoz, Viper Cup racing cars, 996 and 996 Cup cars, GT3 RS, RX7's, RX8's, a super cool brand new wide body M3, a world challenge CTS-V, and some guys in Miatas and older Porsches... so a variable of 20 seconds a lap on some of these cars."
