'04 Chevy Colorado, stock/base radio (cd, AM/FM)53k mi, Ext cab, 4WD, Z71 like it matters Occasionally, about 3-4 times per year, I'll get in my truck, start it up, and there's no sound from the stereo. The stereo comes on, changes stations, etc. I can power it off and on (on/off = pushing volume knob) with no changes BUT the volume knob doesn't do anything - ie doesn't change the volume in the radio itself (the volume level isn't displayed), much less does sound come out of the speakers. I either have to turn my truck & radio off for a while or just pull the fuse and put it back in.Any ideas? [Edited on May 1, 2009 at 12:41 AM. Reason : .]

sounds like a shortwonder if GM covers this under warranty?

in the radio itself I'm guessing? and I have no warranty anymore, gm hasn't recalled other shit that is wrong with this model truck, and they're about to shit the bed = no help from them. [Edited on May 1, 2009 at 11:10 PM. Reason : .]

sounds like the internal amp is going out, time for an upgrade

interesting...any ways to test this problem out? something to confirm that it's just the radio?

if the radio has power, and you are getting nothing from any of the speakers, then you have a bad radio, very simple, theres nothing else that can go wrong there

easy enough. thanks.anyone know of any good 2-Din, CD/DVD+R/RW, 6"+ screen, decks with ipod control that are less than $400? I don't care for navigation. A deck that has a simple e-brake video control bypass would be nice too.I've been looking at decks and most of them say I need to remove a metal support bar behind the stock radio. I'm guessing that once this bar is removed, the stock could never be put back in? (without welding in a new bar I guess).I've looked at a clarion and jensen. neither with great reviews.
