4/28/2009 9:32:16 PM
No problem guys. I'm going to sign up for a Cayman some time with the wife. I'm sure you guys signed up for the 911 right?
4/28/2009 10:08:54 PM
yeah, it was a tough choice though, I really want to try out a cayman
4/28/2009 10:32:06 PM
I really like the cayman as well.....and i dont know why
4/29/2009 7:31:46 AM
sweet...signed up
4/29/2009 8:24:04 AM
more like the poorshit experience
5/1/2009 8:55:26 AM
Sweet!I love the Cayman and will try to make it a future (used) purchase. However, I feel like its more difficult to get a test drive of the 911 so I picked that to drive. It better be a manual dammit! Although I'd like to check out the dual clutch transmission they now have, lol.
5/1/2009 9:41:45 AM
No shit, you can drive a car before you buy it???
5/1/2009 11:10:00 AM
^well smartass, I'm under the impression that this way of setting up a test drive leads Porsche less likely to believe you're seriously considering buying a car. B/c obviously Porsche salesmen aren't gonna let your average moron just walk in all day and drive cars with no thought of buying...similar to when BMW donates money to cancer research when you go in for a test drive.
5/1/2009 12:19:56 PM
I doubt they would ever turn you down for a test drive, that's all.
5/1/2009 3:14:53 PM
some people (and I think me) I agree. Other people, I'd tend to disagree. In fact I've been meaning to go test drive a 370Z. I bet if I go to the Nissan dealership after driving a 911 and say "I want to see how the 370 compares to a 911" they'll be pretty happy, lol.
5/1/2009 3:18:14 PM
just go to random dealerships and test drive everything
5/2/2009 10:40:30 PM
Okay. So I'm setup to drive a Cayman (I hope I can talk them into letting me drive the 315hp Cayman S instead) this weekend. Question.Do I take my 300rwhp 944?orDo I take my brand new Lexus in? I'm thinking the Lexus will come off that I've got $$$, although the 944 will maybe show I can handle the power? Granted, I don't have money ATM and am not interested in buying a Cayman S until the Lexus is paid off. And the 944 isn't in the best of shape, appearanace wise... So yeah... Tough call...
5/4/2009 11:33:52 AM
Damn man, that's a tough call. On one hand you're showing your love of Porsche. And on the other showing you have $$. I'd probably go with showing up in the Lexus, probably a better chance of driving the S model. And yes, I'd love to slide behind the wheel of a 911 Carrera 2S, but we'll see.
5/4/2009 2:13:28 PM
It doesn't matter since you're just going for a joyride anyway.
5/4/2009 2:16:03 PM
im still not understanding the point of this...you sign up online to go to the dealer for a test drive? why cant you just rollup and say "hey, i'd like to test drive this car"?
5/4/2009 3:01:40 PM
Because then they might be confused into thinking you might want to buy it?
5/4/2009 3:04:27 PM
5/4/2009 3:29:18 PM
Dealers don't care about porsches, they care about money. Drive whatever costs the most.
5/4/2009 4:40:37 PM
Either way, they still get your information and will bug you a few times afterwards with a sales pitch and follow-up phone calls...
5/4/2009 6:11:59 PM
i just give them Jeepman's number

I optioned out a 2009 911 Carrera 2 on Porsche's website and came up with $94,000. Somehow I added $18,000 in options. I just couldn't resist the turbo wheels Anyway, that's a $960/month lease payment, lol.Looking forward to the test drive this saturday

Did anyone else see the commerical on CNN today, with the $900+ Range Rover lease?Apparently they are quoting that to everyone.
5/14/2009 1:53:52 AM
^^^^that's about what its cost per month for child care. i never thought i could afford a brand new Porsche until i had a kid.
5/15/2009 8:10:14 AM
All-Come to VIR this weekend for the Porsche experience! I can give rides again this weekend.
5/15/2009 3:58:51 PM
You gonna be there on Sunday? I might be able to come up then. Though I see it might rain...
5/15/2009 4:27:45 PM
^^ I too would be interested in coming up this Sunday, pending weather conditions...
5/15/2009 5:15:01 PM
Let me confirm they allow non participants rides. You want to bring a helmet if you've got one, though rentals are generally available. Long sleeves, pants and closed toe shoes also required. I'm going to try to bring both cars there Sunday, the 911 should be there both days. I'll be parked with two other 911s a GT3 and a Type-R. C'mon up.

Stephen, did you drive a base Cayman, or a Cayman S? I thought the exhaust note was intoxicating! I had a great salesman, really nice guy. I drove a 2006 (30k miles) 911 Carrera 2S and a 2009 Cayman S. I wrung them both out pretty good: full throttle up through 3rd gear, stomped on the brakes at 90, and slung them around on ramps. However, since they're not MY cars and I'm not totally familiar with them I didn't really push them in the turns. But my God I loved them, and actually preferred the Cayman S. And I was in love with the exhaust note. Go figure Stephen I told the salesman several times that I was definitely NOT buying a car today, but he was a good sport anyway. We even ran some numbers on a 2008 (untitled) Cayman S with sport package that was reduced $14,000 off MSRP. Unfortunately it was so far out of my range it wasn't even funny, lol. He suggested that leasing a 2009 Cayman was in my reach but leasing is dumb, as it buying a new car so I said no. Though I told him that I'd probably seriously consider a used Cayman S in the near future. For now I will just dream...
5/16/2009 1:03:39 PM
Well, he knew I'd beat the hell out of the car (well, I did it respectably, we drove it around a little to warm up the engine and gearbox before doing any "spirited driving") I only got to drive the Cayman. He didn't have any used Cayman S available for test drive (or he lied. Maybe it's because I'm young ) and other than an increase in power, larger brakes, and slightly different exhaust note, I can't imagine any difference between the base and S model (granted those are significant things, but this is just a quick joy ride and the suspension should be the same). I didn't push the car enough where I believe I'd feel the difference in the larger S brakes. The base brakes definitely felt awesome. I'm totally sure that 50hp more makes the car feel from sports car "average" to respectably "fast." I really wasn't worried about the power as much as the nimbleness of the vehicle though. When you get the Cayman S, you'll have to let me ride shotgun so I can hear it. Honestly, there was something about riding the Cayman that sorta reminded me of the Elise. I like both cars. The setup in each make me feel very comfortable. We'll see what happens in the future. I'm going back and forth on the idea of a Cayman S. It would be nice to add a mid-engine vehicle to the stable (either Elise, Cayman S, or NSX)^ yeah you're right, I mistyped the Cayman S instead of the base up there. I wouldn't ever settle on a Cayman. It felt anemic for a sports car I think the Cayman S would be fine though [Edited on May 16, 2009 at 1:21 PM. Reason : .][Edited on May 16, 2009 at 1:22 PM. just get a GT-R and be done with it.
5/16/2009 2:33:27 PM
I will be at VIR w/the Corvette only tomorrow. Passengers are allowed. I'll be around until 2-3pm or so, maybe longer. Drop by, I can get you rides in other instructors cars, and chat but I can't promise a ride in my car as I have like 4 people who want to now, and I only have 3 sessions left.
5/16/2009 11:33:22 PM
Ahmet, thanks for the offer but I decided not to go (which I'm sure Stephen will tell you). The combination of bad weather and a raging hangover made me change my mind about coming.
5/17/2009 4:14:58 PM
DO WANT
5/17/2009 10:21:41 PM
This in all black is really hawt.Oh, and I will say that I was VERY surprised at how much head room there was! It's got more headroom (by at least 4 inches) than the LEXUS! WHAT THE HELL!?[Edited on May 18, 2009 at 9:26 AM. Reason : .]
