Just got my seriously ratty CB500 running again after...I don't know, 20 years of rusting out in a barn. Anyone else riding antiques?

well between the rust, it is already mostly black.Too bad i got tankslapped all over the place near trailwoods and lineberry.i blame the terrible front forks and head bearings ; )I think the only thing that was damaged was the stator cover...though i need to make sure its nothing more serious before i get on it again.

Its a lot of fun to ride. I just recently managed to fix the charging system...after replacing almost every component.I picked this one in in shit-shape for 400 dollars about 9 months ago.800 dollars later, its reliable to ride.[Edited on May 3, 2009 at 6:56 PM. Reason : ninjaedit]

theres nothing to it, just a rotor, stator, and recitfier/regulator
5/3/2009 8:43:17 PM
No one said it's complicated.

I got modern replacements for the reg/rect.the real problem was tracking down the corroded connections in the wiring harness that were increasing overall system resistance and fucking shit up.
5/3/2009 11:21:07 PM
best thing to do is just get some new weatherpack connectors and replace as much as you can
5/5/2009 7:57:10 AM
Yea, i bought a new headlight..but it is rather weak. I can only imagine that the huge mess of connectors behind it need some cleaning.
5/5/2009 7:59:29 PM
what is your voltage running? too high of a wattage headlight will be dimmer on that bike if it pulls too much load
5/5/2009 8:07:41 PM
standard 50/60W i believe..could be 45/55W, ill have to check.
