http://wolfpackpigskin.blogspot.com/Pigskin posted an article about the all time passing records at State, and Jay Davis and Daniel Evans are posted on there several times, which begs the question:Were they better than I remember, or is state weaker at the QB position historically than we'd like to admit?

i still hold true to my claim that Jay Davis could have been great if he had a decent O-Linehe was one of the best play-action QBs i've ever seen

Evans was terrible.Jay Davis actually wasn't in the shitter as much
4/25/2009 9:59:52 AM
where are the INT stats....Jay Davis completed more passes to the other team...

Jay Davis really wasn't that bad. To this day, I still say that people who kept wanting Marcus Stone to replace him have slight mental disabilities...at the least.Daniel Evans was below average, but still better than anyone we had during his tenure except for Russel Wilson of course. He had decent accuracy, just not a lot of arm strength. And he could at least throw a decent jump ball and give our receivers a chance. People clamoring for Harrison Beck have the same mental deficiencies as the people who liked Stone.Stone and Beck are two of the worst QBs in the history of the ACC.

More passing means more yards.More short passes means higher completion percentage.Nearly every QB at every school in the last 10 years is in up there in passing rankings. It's not like Evans was better than Roman Gabriel...

i would rank our last 4 QB's in order from "decent to awful as shit" as..........Davis>Evans>Stone> Beck
4/25/2009 11:23:11 AM
1. Davis2. Evans3. Beck4. Stone
4/25/2009 11:57:57 AM
I think we can all appreciate Beck's ability to grip it and rip it

i never understood the hate over davishe was replacing an absolute legend and whenever he had time to throw (which wasn't very often since our line was god awful) he wasnt bad at allbut he played awful against ohio state and people thought stone was the second coming of football jesus

Jay Davis was like Jake Delhomme if every game was vs. the Cardinals in the playoffs
4/25/2009 1:02:37 PM
i wish they kept stats for bounced screen passes, b/c Jay Davis had approximately 8 million of them

Davis probably isn't better than you remember, but he's better than a lot of people gave him credit for.

My nigga dont passHe just fall on his assHe wont throw the rock awayJay Davis, Jay Davis
4/25/2009 2:44:53 PM
russell wilson should bump davis off that list in about 7 games
4/25/2009 4:03:41 PM
pretty sure he already has
4/25/2009 4:08:52 PM
Jay Davis wasn't bad at all IMO.

Davis had the same pedigree as Rivers...grew up around football, dad was a HS coach. And yet he looked a lot more comfortable wearing his ball cap on the sideline calling in plays than he did directing them on the field. He has the physical talents but he didn't have it between the ears.

Daniel Evans would rank in the top 10 all time in passing yards at Notre Dame too.Pass heavy offense is still a relatively new concept.

Eh, Davis was pretty bad. After watching him noodle-arm passes over the middle and getting his receivers nearly killed, I wouldn't say he was a good QB by any means.

MAZZWNED!

I'll also add that Jay Davis had the #1 defense in the nation, so he got a lot of opportunities to throw the ball. First team in NCAA history to lead the nation in defense and not make a bowl what what?
4/27/2009 1:04:31 PM
he also had the worst offensive line in the country

^ Not to mention Mazzone loved 3rd and 17's, so we were always having to pass.
