i know there's at least one of you on here, but i can't remember your username i'm taking PE243 this semester. when i registered for the class last semester (using the old TRACS system) i KNOW that i changed it to credit only grading when i registered for it.the instructor just showed me today a printout that said i was taking it for a grade... i just logged on, and the stupid new oracle/peoplesoft registration thing does indeed say that i'm taking it for a grade.a) is there some way to get this changed back? i think i printed a copy of my schedule when i registered that shows i switched it to credit only grading... i'd have to dig it up, but i can probably find it if need be.b) has this happened to anyone else that you know of? it seems sort of strange...thanks in advance!]

Walk into the reg&rec office. It's harder to pass the buck on when the kid is standing face to face and staring at you.
4/22/2009 8:38:48 PM
hahahahhahaaevan pwnt.stay home.
4/22/2009 8:46:30 PM
I had that happen a few years ago. I could never get it changed over correctly.
4/23/2009 5:45:16 PM
ya id go chew them out at the office, esp since the system changed. Im sure you arnt the only one.
4/23/2009 7:24:57 PM
So, I just looked at my grades in this new gayified system and my two PEs that I KNOW for a fact were credit only are being reported with grades and it includes them in my "units taken towards GPA" count. What the fuck? Anybody else have this happen?
4/29/2009 9:28:28 PM
This sounds like a system migration problem.
4/30/2009 2:55:31 PM
...that royally fucks students, in classic NCSU fashion
4/30/2009 7:45:46 PM
if the problem is system-wide then they should be reasonable about switching it after the fact, considering it was their mistake, just make sure they're well awarethe PE I signed up for last semester I took for a grade, and the one I added first week I set on cr only in the new system, so it didn't end up affecting me
4/30/2009 11:19:17 PM
good luck getting them to change it.....you have a snowballs chance in hell of getting it changed....I think this is a classic "user error" issue instead of a system issue.
5/2/2009 10:35:31 PM
error between chair and keyboard imo
5/3/2009 12:16:22 AM
^^I'm not sure you're understanding what supposedly happened if you think it's the user's faultif the system did not properly migrate schedules made in the past into the new system, the user shouldn't have to re-check his schedule halfway through the next semester when their schedule had been set, and correctly, back on the old system which was the only way to do it at the time
5/3/2009 1:39:37 AM
^^, ^^^no, if you would have read what i wrote, you wouldn't have said that.i even found the printout that i made of my schedule when i finished signing up for classes on TRACS that says it was credit only. i took that over to R&R, they still wouldn't change it - she told me the only way it's getting changed is to get a grade change form signed by the instructor and the dean of my college, which isn't going to happen.i had been fairly neutral on this whole switching to PeopleSoft thing... but this just fucking pisses me off. if you're going to up and change things in the middle of the year, at least make sure things change over properly... and, if there are mistakes, be willing to, uh, you know, fix them when people call them to your attention.^exactly.she even told me that i "should have checked on it before the add/drop deadline"...because i routinely log in to the admin portal to check that my registration stayed the same (i sure will now, though)]

If you have objective evidence such as old printouts, then one option is to contact the Registrar.Provide him with the facts and evidence and request the problem be investigated. He is aware that that there were problems in the migration to the new system.University Registrar, Louis D. I gave up on getting mine changed. I don't think anyone wanted to admit their shitty system could possibly have fucked things up and my adviser did everything she could. The dean's office didn't want to touch it b/c they have a "we won't do shit unless we absolutely have to" policy and wanted me to go to the head of the Phys Ed dept. This is one of the things that I hate most about this university (probably true for other state entities too though). If something fucks up and you can't pinpoint who's fault it is, everyone refuses to fix the problem.Evan, if you're still trying to get yours changed, ask them to check the logs from the old system. My adviser managed to get access to the old data but couldn't find anything in the logs. Maybe you'll have better luck.

Would your teachers original printout listing the students taking their class have whether or not the student is taking the class for a grade or credit only? I'm not sure what they get, but it'd be worth asking the teacher if they have anything showing you were taking it for credit only.
5/12/2009 9:15:23 AM
in a bureaucracy, it's always more effective to start at the top than at the bottom...
5/12/2009 10:38:04 AM
I am probably the person you were thinking of ... although I no longer work at R&R.I would make an appointment to talk to Michelle Johnson or Louis Hunt. At this point, they are the only people who can deal with the issue. You may not get the answer you are looking for. However, it may be just as easy to talk to your professor and dean.

5/12/2009 6:36:41 PM
evan, did you ace the PE?
5/12/2009 9:06:33 PM
nah, barely passed. it was bowling, and i have no idea how to bowl properly.that's why i'm pissed, i don't want a C- on my transcript for something as retarded as bowling.
5/13/2009 5:35:18 PM
lol I, too, barely passed bowling back in the daybut my teacher had a harder grading scale than all the other bowling coaches for some retarded reason[Edited on May 13, 2009 at 8:03 PM. Reason : ]
5/13/2009 8:02:51 PM
Doesn't credit-only require a 75 for a pass?Correct me if I'm wrong, but that means a C- would not have cut it anyway...Suppose it depends whether you'd rather take the slight GPA hit or take a U.
5/14/2009 1:36:43 AM
nope, C- is passing.http://www.ncsu.edu/policies/academic_affairs/courses_undergrad/REG02.20.15.php

Hey Evan, you're not a double major by any chance are you? I was thinking about how they could have fucked up the data transfer from one system to another for just a few people. Being a double major is the biggest difference I could think of between me and the average student taking a PE for credit only.
5/14/2009 3:56:51 PM
why yes, in fact, i am.technically a triple major since the pre-med advising option is counted as another degree key in tracs.hmm...i've decided to just stop fighting it, though... it's not worth my time, and i have a feeling that no one is going to admit that their new system could have fucked up.
5/14/2009 5:44:18 PM
the easiest way to get this university to do something is to get your parents to complain. it's lame, but it works.
5/14/2009 5:58:43 PM
They arent going to believe them....if they do for one it opens the flood gates. Oh wow evan, a C-....oh well, your GPA will only be slightly affected.
5/16/2009 5:03:16 PM
^^ What kind of fag that brings his parents into college shit? I'd read articles about this new breed of college student, but I have never seen that shit go down first hand.
5/16/2009 6:14:47 PM
^ it's true, though. just e-mail a complaint to the chancellor. it's easy for him (or an admin assistant) to simply forward it to someone else, and suddenly it's an OMG HUGE PROBLEM. i've seen it happen a lot. bitchy parents and students are the squeaky wheel that gets the grease.
5/16/2009 9:06:54 PM
I too, know how to photoshop Word docs.
5/18/2009 11:31:05 AM
^^yep. it's ridiculous, but it works.
