You should start with something like this:

http://www.aquaticcreationsgroup.comGo there. My animal science class went there for lab this semester and they custom build fishtanks to fit your specs.. they will also get you fish and come clean your tank. It will definitely be more than 300 though.

$300 will get you a 36" long tank at Petsmartmight want to just spend the money on some paint and make a mural on the wall.

^^^want
4/20/2009 10:42:15 AM
hahahahhahaha be prepared to drop more than 300 dude. You need to factor in the tank, lighting, heat, and and all chemicals (for water quality, fish, and plants), the actual fish, food, plants, cleaning equipment, substrate, filters, testing equipment . . .

Not to mention, upkeep would be pretty $texas.
4/20/2009 11:12:57 AM
don't forget about the weight of the thing. i'd be scared to do that in an apt.
4/20/2009 11:13:08 AM
is this what you would do to clean it
4/20/2009 11:13:48 AM
20l or 50gal tops

I worked with fish a few years ago and we had a big round tank that held roughly 300 gallons (which is prob the size you're thinking) -- my boss told me it was worth well over $1,000... so ummm dream big

I thought this thread was about saps852's mother's panties.

i found a 6' long tank that held 100 gallons of water on ebay once and seriously considered getting it, but when you do the math1 gallon of water = ~8 pounds800 pound fishtank? no thanks.[Edited on April 20, 2009 at 12:52 PM. Reason : .]

you could build a plywood tank that would be huge for under a grand
4/20/2009 12:54:10 PM
you dont want a fishtank. you only think you do. they are huge pain in the ass and a money pit to boot.
4/20/2009 1:03:32 PM
Fishtanks are awesome and freshwater is so easy to maintain. But $300 might get you a 29 gallon.... aha
4/20/2009 1:07:06 PM
I enjoyed mine while I had it, but ^^ is right. Not so much about the moneypit thing, but it is a lot of work to keep it looking nice.[Edited on April 20, 2009 at 1:08 PM. Reason : ^]

I've got a 30 gallon hexagonal tank I am looking to sell with all of the accessories

My favorite day as a former owner of a fishtank was when some wolfwebber came and took it away.and by "former owner" I mean that there was one in our house because my wife wanted it, and my only condition in letting her get it was that I would never be asked to do any maintenance on it. So a year later she decided we didn't need a fish tank any longer.
4/20/2009 2:08:43 PM
damn, i think yall managed to talk me out of this, but i still want at least a fish bowl for starters
4/20/2009 2:59:03 PM

4/20/2009 3:46:58 PM
In a few more weeks I'll be diving in it to clean it too
4/20/2009 3:55:10 PM
what's in it besides the king, french, heniochus, YT, squirrel, and lookdowns?
4/20/2009 3:58:19 PM
you could build your own prom acrylic, if you had about a week to kill and about $2k for materials
4/20/2009 4:23:48 PM
You just want to look at fishsticks.
4/20/2009 4:24:34 PM
Just to let you know, growing life plants in an aquarium is a lot of work. It makes your water look all green and nasty. i don't recommend it.If you are going to get a tank that size, I recommend doing saltwater and building a kickass coral reefeither way, there is no way you will find a tank that size for $300. $3000 would even be a stretchAnd that shit that Takimoto posted is off the fucking chain[Edited on April 20, 2009 at 4:30 PM. 4/20/2009 7:28:16 PM
