I believe in August we are taking a beach trip and want to bring the dogs. I am listing a few beaches that will absolutely allow dogs at any time on the beach. I have been to Topsail and I love it, but has anyone else been to these other beaches? Are they extremely crowded during the summer? I am open to any opinions. I am also open to hear of any beaches I don't list.

You can bring leashed dogs on the beach year round at Fort Fisher State Park, just south of Kure Beach. There's a large, free public parking lot near the bathhouse. The beach closest to the parking lot might be crowded on a summer day, but there's a few miles of hiking trails that will lead you to more secluded parts of the beach if you wish to get away from the crowds.

I love oak island and you can usually find a spot that's not too crowdedAnd OBX is definitely dog friendly with leash
4/19/2009 8:01:53 PM
oak island is the least crowded of any non-ferry beach i've ever been to. really laid back place.^"outerbanks" is a vague term. hell, atlantic beach and emerald isle are on the "outerbanks", but idk about pets there.[Edited on April 19, 2009 at 8:07 PM. Reason : .]

i've seen people with dogs off leash a ton at duck and corolla, but I wouldn't take my own dogs out there because it is too crowded and my dogs like to meet people.

I'm really glad this thread happened.Carolina Beach is not dog friendly. You can have them on the beach, leashed, at anytime of the day or night, but only between October 3 and like March 3 or something... It's too cold then
4/20/2009 3:14:17 PM
my girl has been wondering about this for the past few daysi pointed her here.
4/20/2009 3:35:16 PM
Sunset Beach (last beach in NC before SC...close to Calabash and Myrtle)you can have them on the beach after Labor day (Sept) up to Memorial Day (the following May). Not really supposed to have them off leash, but we do it b/c Sunset is a ghost town during those times.

ooops. we always let our dog on the beach without a leash at nags head. i mean we didn't walk up and down the beach with her w/o a leash. i feel like i never see dogs on leashes there. even walking up and down the beach.i'm not good at following laws...oopsy.

Anyone real familiar with the Beaufort/Morehead/AB area? Going across the bridge from Morehead to Beaufort is a little place called Radio Island. Next to Olde Towne Yacht Club there is a nice little beach without any noticable waves. What are the leash/dog laws for that stretch of shore? I've tried to look it up but I think it is too small to warrent any kind of website. It is never really busy.
4/20/2009 7:32:12 PM
When we had our Beagle and a friend's Husky on Kure Beach last year, they were absolute Nazis about kicking us off, even though the dogs were leashed and well-behaved (Memorial Day weekend).I think Kure allows them on during the off-season- Nov. through March.
4/20/2009 7:36:07 PM
For freeman park(north end of carolina beach) but will be crowded as fuck
4/20/2009 7:39:17 PM
Kitty Hawk and Southern Shores are the only towns that are going to throw a fit about dogs. Don't let them run loose and pick up after them and no one really cares. Don't just throw sand on their shit. It attracts biting flies and no one wants to find that crap when walking or letting their kids build a sand castle or digging a hole while playing.

The beach at Fort Macon is dog friendly but its more for fishing and sunning then actually getting in the water.
4/20/2009 10:45:44 PM
any beaches along the pamlico sound that are dog friendly and not very populated?
4/25/2009 10:17:47 PM
Wrightsville Beach--must be on a leash. Not allowed on beach between April 1st and Sept 30th.
4/26/2009 11:25:51 AM
http://www.dogfriendly.com/server/travel/guides/us/usstateNC.shtmlAlso, if you got a small boat there is an island that locals around Beaufort/Atlantic Beach area refer to as "Dog Island" which is basically a big sand bar near the inlet. During the hours of low tide many ppl bring their dogs out there to run freely. Just a suggestion.

I am going to Kill Devil Hills with the bf and some of our friends. We got a "dune view" on the first floor hotel. It isn't the best looking hotel, but it is definitely decent enough to take the dogs I am excited because Jinzo is a water dog and Jaeda is a water Monster!!!

4/1/2010 5:14:15 PM
Thanks! I have a question for all you Topsail/Surf City goers with dogs...is there any restaurant that has outdoor seating or a picnic bench so that our dogs can sit with us while we eat? I was planning on just bringing picnic food but if we can grab some fresh local food that'd be wonderful!!
4/1/2010 5:55:15 PM
Atlantic Beach allows dogs on year round and generally doesn't get too overcrowded during the summer. You have to have your dog on a leash, but if your dog stays close by as long as you have the lease attached to the collar the police won't say anything...We would keep Buster's leash attached but let him walk around as he pleased and the police would drive by and wave, they are pretty lax with that here.
4/1/2010 6:25:07 PM
Thanks! I love AB (EI especially), but I've been there so often I think it's time for a change. Plus, supposedly at Topsail Beach (southern end) you can let the dog off the leash if they're well behaved.Sometime this summer though I want to go camping near Morehead city right off the inlet...that'd be fun!

i was searching for this thread earlier! thanks for bumping

barely
4/2/2010 5:09:26 PM
Yeah what she said is just like when people say they are from Raleigh but really live in Garner, or like I tell people that I moved to Hickory when I really moved to Conover.EI and AB are totally lumpable.
4/2/2010 5:28:24 PM
FUCK YOUI grew up here and that shit is not "lumpable".
4/2/2010 5:33:17 PM
Atlantic Beach = Everyman's Beach <- Me Emerald Isle = Rich White Tourists & Really, Really High Rich White Locals <- Everyone I went to high school withBoth of them are dog friendly, as long as you have a leash, but even that part doesn't fucking matter. They're the only beaches I even like in coastal NC. And fuck whoever says SOBX isn't OBX, I don't give a damn about your technicalities.
4/2/2010 11:49:53 PM
4/3/2010 7:52:45 AM
All of them are separate, distinct places, you moron. And especially to say that EI and AB are "lumpable" when they are separated by about 20 miles is fucking retarded, like you. It's just like a fucking dingbat tourist so say a bunch of shit like that.[Edited on April 3, 2010 at 9:28 AM. Reason : *]
4/3/2010 9:27:37 AM
55 years ago, there was absolutely nothing on that island. don't act like those little post office districts are distinct towns with hundreds of years of rich heritage that would be abandoned if you lumped them together. You wouldn't know when you left one town and entered the next if it weren't for the signs.

4/3/2010 5:30:46 PM
Moving here from somewhere else will never make you a local. So eat shit and die.
4/3/2010 7:16:29 PM
...weren't you born in Kingston?
4/3/2010 7:45:49 PM
just got back from caswell beach. really cool spot if you have a dog.
4/3/2010 8:14:55 PM
Right down on da beach, boyeeeeee
4/3/2010 11:27:28 PM
I just got back from Fort Macon (Atlantic Beach, though it's totally different even within the town--you don't go there to swim because YOU CAN'T BITCHES) with my fat, fat beagle mix.
4/4/2010 3:26:04 AM
I got the shit sunburned out of me yesterday over on Carrot Island. You can let the dog off the leash over there. We had 4 dogs running around.Of course you'll need your own boat to get over there.
4/4/2010 1:36:50 PM
4/4/2010 9:10:37 PM
Oh ok got it. You're an idiot local then.
4/5/2010 11:39:52 AM
I generally lump Atlantic Beach with PKS, Salter Path and Indian Beach. I don't generally include Emerald Isle, but when you are trying to explain to someone where you live, I can see where you would lump the two.
