The now ex-lady changed her mind, so I'm kind of stuck with the ring. Bailey's won't buy it back, but I get credit for the diamond.Anyone thinking about buying something from there and want $4500 at some sort of discount?[Edited on April 18, 2009 at 12:23 PM. Reason : .]

damn. I WAS thinking about buying one (really) but after reading this....
4/18/2009 1:19:43 PM
you weren't serious about buying one if this changed your mindOP: that sucks dude
4/18/2009 1:40:57 PM
That's a lot of money for a diamond!!!!!!!

remember its 2-3 months salary so thats about right if you make 50 grand a year.

^I am not spending 10,000 on an engagement ring. Whomever came up with that rule of thumb is a moron. I'd rather have a nicer wedding, put more money into a house, go on a better honeymoon... I think most guys would agree. But to empathize with urge311, that sucks man, sorry

thanks for all the support!now someone buy my credit so i can do something fun for myself!
4/19/2009 10:30:00 AM
been there, done that. jared has a 30 day return policy (I made sure of this before buying). try ebay
4/19/2009 10:56:12 AM
im well out of any sort of 30 day policy... it took her about 8 months to change her mind.i'm not in desperate need of cash, so it's probably still better to wait and get rid of the credit than to sell the diamond.

Why not try to work things out with her? Of course we don't know the situation, but there's always hope?

I was always taught that you purchase a cheap ring (~$1500) to propose with, then when you figure out she's not a gold digger get her a real ring 5-10 years into it. My stepdad started out with like a .8 carat at proposal and replaced it with a 3 carat internally flawless. I think it was around 40% of his yearly wage

4500$ dollar bucks???
4/21/2009 10:31:13 AM
$4,500 is not bad at all. That was way less than what I spent on a ring...but then again, i got my woman a 1.53 carat ring....I got a bargain on a:Round, brilliant cut solitaire, 1.53 carats in weight, measuring 7.52 mm in dimaeter X 4.56 mm deep, Color is H, Clarity is SI2, Girdle is thin and unpolished, finish is fine. All that is set in a Tiffany mounting with a platinum tapered shank and a 6 prong platinum head.

Did you give it to your life partner? Cause that sounds really fucking gay...

^^ Your post has really helped to contribute to urge311's attempt to sell his credit.Pat yourself on the back for such a fine job of salesmanship.

my girl would have killed me if I spent $4500 on a ring (and for that I am glad because I had no intentions of spending anything close to that anyways)
4/21/2009 12:21:47 PM
sounds like he spent a good bit more than that on the settng and they wouldnt take that back
4/21/2009 12:51:04 PM
nah, setting wasn't too expensive.i do like the cheap ring approach though, might just consider that next time lol
4/21/2009 1:20:24 PM
some places will let you hold the ring and use it for the future when u plan to buy something if u are likely to get engaged again
4/21/2009 1:21:28 PM
yea, that's what bailey's offered.I'd rather get it out of here and spend the money on something nice for myself though.
4/21/2009 1:55:21 PM
get yourself a rolex or brietling or some other $$$ watch.
4/21/2009 1:59:04 PM
If you can, hold on to it until X-mas comes around. You missed V-day...so the next big "go buy me a diamond" event will be X-mas....you will get the most bang for your buck.

^ worst idea ever^^ winnerYou'd be trading something with low resale value to something with high resale value. Its always easy to turn over a really nice quality watch.

It's going to be tough to get your money out of it. My advice is to stand outside the Bailey's and mention what you want for it to customers going in.
4/21/2009 4:18:07 PM
ill pay 3.2k for it
