(finally) coming Fall 2009who's excited?

I thought his stuff was pretty funny when I was 19.
4/15/2009 12:10:16 PM
I hope he goes on O&A again to promote it again and gets thoroughly trashed and made fun of. That was great... and exposed him pretty good.[Edited on April 15, 2009 at 12:49 PM. Reason : x]

Video?Every one I've seen that "exposes him" just asks obvious questions that he's answered 100 times.
4/15/2009 12:51:27 PM
They picked this to play Tucker? I never expected the movie rise above anything more than "OK if you're high/drunk" but still
4/15/2009 1:15:57 PM
Just because the stories are false or highly-embellished doesn't mean they're not funny. However, why is there a movie? That's not the best medium for this sort of thing.
4/15/2009 1:46:37 PM
The same reason there was a movie for "He's Just Not That into You."Because they can.
4/15/2009 1:54:08 PM
http://digg.com/d11k9GAnthony is pretty much a cocksucker and this isn't the whole thing, but they were basically clowning on him the entire time and pretending his "headphones didn't work" so they could call him out without him leaving...And yeah, the stories are entertaining... but they didn't all happen to him.[Edited on April 15, 2009 at 2:02 PM. book sequel coming out this summer

Even if they aren't all true or didn't all happen to him -- they're still funny.. I'm sure the movie will not have the greatest acting and all that but it might be worth it.. Well, maybe worth it at Mission Valley where you can get some beer...Either way, I'm looking forward to it.[Edited on April 15, 2009 at 4:55 PM. Reason : .]

I think this is going to be great. Tucker has done a good job of defending himself from the naysayers, in my opinion, and I think this will work well. Plus, it's based on my favorite of his stories.I personally think Tucker Max is one of the greatest writers of our generation, if for no other reason than he teaches you how to write a villain. The character of Tucker Max, whether this is what he's really like or not (which I think he is) is a deplorable jackass who in normal social situations would be shunned or easily written off. But Tucker forces you to see things from his point of view. The "villain" becomes so sympathetic that he beomes the hero that people want to emulate. Even if his actions are typical "villain," you can't ignore him or write him off.Even if you decide that Tucker has lied with every word he's said, (which I don't buy) he has done a great job of cross-promotion with other authors on the Rudius Media sites. I love love LOVE Shrink Talk, Bunny, and Gaijin Smash. Ben Corman and Robert Greene are also awesome. On his forums, he promotes writing and has a special section for prospective writers. I think it's unfortunate that most of the writers on there try to do real-life, first-person works, like Tucker's, but I've got a piece or two that I think can stand up to their criticism.Love him or hate him, he's changing the business. The fact that he was able to take his breakout work and get it published on his own, and then make a movie about it speaks volumes for the rest of us. If you really do have quality work, you CAN actually do something about it.

^ I will gladly admit that I overestimate him. I kind of see him as a hope for other writers that choose to buck the system, but he can just be pared down to a guy writing for the lowest common denominator about getting drunk and fucking bitches. I just personally think he writes really well about getting drunk and fucking bitches. There's a part of me that wants to call him this generation's Hunter Thompson. I think his experiences, real or fake, (as I have said, I believe real) are so accessible to the general public that he has the same appeal as Thompson, yet the same idea of spectacle, that you want to be like this, yet you don't want to, when you see exactly how far down that black hole you can go.[Edited on April 15, 2009 at 6:41 PM. I agree with furi, he's showing that this style of writing down you're personal stories can be really entertaining. Everyone has that really ridiculous story and its showing that it has marketability.
4/15/2009 7:12:13 PM
most annoying, overachieving "writer" i can recall. i feel about the same about the people who like that book. is the first screening going to be in a frat house?
4/15/2009 7:58:04 PM
only thing good to come of Tucker Max was Tardblog.
4/15/2009 8:04:47 PM
I wouldn't mind his shit so much if he just admitted that some/most of the stories are adapted from others or just completely made up by him. Trying to pull off that he has done ALL of this shit by himself is ridiculous.I heard that interview on O&A as it was going down and it was brutal. I think they really exposed some of the bullshit he dishes out, but cut up for video and time it doesn't really convey the entirety of the interview.

I don't find it that unbelievable that most if not all of the stories in the book could happen to one person (whether or not they happened to Tucker Max, I can't say). When I think about the stories from my own experience and try to imagine what they'd have been like if I'd had plenty of money and a different reaction to alcohol, it gets pretty close. Doesn't hurt that one of my best friends is alarmingly close to being the character of Slingblade from the book.As it happens, I'm a mellow drunk who is broke, so I don't take a lot of trips and don't tend to berate strangers when intoxicated. But when I do berate somebody, I get chased out of an apartment complex by an angry, armed mob,* and when I do travel, I wander into riots and get tear-gassed. So I can see how with some minor tweaking, I could have some tales similar to his. That said, I find Tucker Max to be intensely annoying, and if it weren't for the rare thing that made me fall over laughing I never would've made it through the book.*-If any of you have ever been part of a large, armed mob chasing a tall guy in a hawaiian shirt out of an apartment complex, I'm not sorry. I called that girl a whore because she was acting like one.[Edited on April 15, 2009 at 10:46 PM. Reason : ]

I mean, I think his stories are funny, but c'mon. One of the greatest of our generation? God I hope not.
4/15/2009 11:27:27 PM
I've never wanted to be anything like him. Even while in college, I shunned depraved, abject behavior wholesale. And I certainly wouldn't consider myself to be a prude.

i'm glad to say that i have never strived to be a lying douchbagand am even more proud that i have never associated with anyone who has

the man has a series of obvious tells. most notably how he touches his nose. those stories are all most assuredly lies.
4/16/2009 4:23:21 PM
they're making a movie or a tv show out of this stupidity?
4/16/2009 4:31:26 PM
I still don't get why people get so hung up on whether or not his stories are true. It doesn't matter if they are. For the most part, they're funny and that's what counts. The truth is irrelevant and immaterial to the stories being told.
4/16/2009 4:47:21 PM
I'd say the stories are probably based loosely on true things and he just stretches the truth a lot and adds things to them to make them funnier and more interesting.

I don't understand why people don't believe the stories. For most of the book I found the stories humorous to a degree but for many of them I thought it was odd that anyone would find the stories (minus a few) to be that wild.If you drink and hang out with idiots in college many of the stories in that book are pretty routine. Ch 1) I got wasted and then slept with a girl.Ch 2) I got wasted and then told a girl to fuck herself and she still hooked up with me.Ch 3) I got wasted and hooked up with a fat girl.Ch 4) My friend got wasted and called a girl a bitch then i threw up then i almost got in a fight then i went home with a girl i met by telling her she had nice boobs.A lot of these sound like mundane dollar night at PB's stories... I think its hilarious that he thinks he is the only one who has ever gotten drunk and fucked a girl. I'd be willing to bet that in at least 33% of his "outrageous" stories there was at least one person at that bar who has a better story than he does from that night.

i have to admit, for being a total douche, Tucker Max writes well. his stories crack me up

Seems to me this shit just followed the same Dane Cook curve.Few people know about it so it is awesome, more people know about it so it is still ok to like it and talk it up as if your a person in the know, gets really popular 3-4 years after the initial few know it and is popular to the masses, few people decide to hate it and start ripping on it, becomes cool to be the person that hates it and "knew they were all lies" or "that it was crap to begin with" all along even though you originally liked it. I thought the book was funny, never really cared if the stories were true or not. Certainly had nights similar to some of the stories but never wrote them down in a way that others would enjoy reading them. With all the crappy movies that are made these days, if the thing is entertaining and has some laughs great, better then most of the other shit that is made.

Trailer is out:http://www.myspace.com/trailerparkLooks like a crappy version of the Hangover
8/4/2009 7:29:00 PM
I thought his stuff was hilarious when i was starting college. I don't see why people would think he made all of this up, I mean sure he probably stretched a little bit, but having drank most of my life since I was about 16 I'm sure I've done stupider and possibly funnier things, or know people that have, so one guy who actually did some of these is believable.Never bought the book though, once the website stopped updating with the stories I lost interest.
8/4/2009 7:50:41 PM
Best story prolly has to be when he bones that chick in the butt, but he uses too much lube and she poos all over his bed and him, and his friend falls out of the closet with a video camera puking, and she runs down the street naked, screaming, covered in shit. Now I don't know how much of it was true, but it was pretty damn funny when I read it years ago.
8/4/2009 8:39:04 PM
my little brother (who is 19) actually just called me to ask if i was going to the premiere on campus.
8/4/2009 8:43:42 PM
It's one thing to not be particularly impressed by the shenanigans, because it's nothing spectacularly crazy... he just tells the stories better than most could. If you actually think it's all lies and bullshit, then you must lead a really really boring life (unless you were there and know exactly what went down). Because none of this shit requires any level of suspended disbelief.
