i hate math with a burning passion and heard it might be easier at wake tech. Not to mention you only have 25 kids in the class instead of god knows how many.

Anyone taken it there? Thoughts

my roommate failed a math class at wake tech because he used derivatives to do a problem and the teacher hadn't taught that.

but he went to like the adviser person and tested out of all that shit.

I almost took Calculus at WTCC but I decided to tranfer to NCSU and take it here. All my freinds struggled in Calc 1,2,3 at Wake Tech. They said its really hard over there but then again maybe it was just hard for them.

I got A's in all three levels at NCSU, it wasnt that bad. Def take advantage of office hours.

only calculus i found hard was ma 241 (calc 2) at NCSU

not sure why that was, but calc 3 was very easy

calc 2 at wake tech isn't too bad, i heard at ncsu its very tough, but i passed it with ease at wake tech.

i took some summer classes at JCC while at State
the classes i took were much easier there than here but Calculus wasnt one of them

Much better than wake tech. I took summer school at both online and Wake Tech sucked..BIG TIME. CPCC constantly ranks as a top community college and it's the second biggest one in the country.

241 was definitely the hardest for me. I had dempster and she could make a 0xx level math class hard

I took calc 1 & 2 at Durham Tech, so I imagine it would be about the same. Great teachers (one of them is now here as a math PhD candidate) and small classes.

It depends, but in general Calc at State is much, much easier to get a good grade in. My experience was the Calc at State was geared towards more of pumping students through the class, where as at WT they actually wanted you to know the material. There were 30 people in my Calc II class at Wake Tech, compared to the ~130-80 in my Calc I and III classes at State. The tests were much easier at State, and the tests are the same no matter what teacher you get at both schools (they were made by the faculty for all classes at that level for that semester).

Calc at NCSU is really not that bad. My only recommendation is to get a secondary calc book w/ a solutions manual so you can work extra examples as a reference. Examples are key.

I had ThePitts for Calc 2, he was the man. Especially after I had Dr. Silverberg for Calc 1, he was awful. I don't know what you guys are talking about having giant calc classes at NCSU, every one of my calc classes was tiny... like 20 people, we were crammed into those tiny inner rooms in Harrelson.

IIRC, you can look at the open seats when you sign up for the class. That in combination with the room # will give you a general idea of how many people will be in your class.

I took classes at WTCC and the only ones that were easier than NCSU were major specific classes. The general classes (read: weedouts) were equivalent due to accreditation standards.

I recommend taking it during Summer School. That is when I took 242 and I prefer the faster schedule. When I was going to class every day and having tests once a week, it was easier for me. I had to work much harder (mainly because there was an hour or two homework every night), but it was like ripping off the band-aid vs. the agonizing slow arm-hair pulling. YMMV.

Dont take accounting 1 or 2 at State unless you love it.....if you need to just pass without it killing your GPA, take it at community college...make at least a C...transfers as a S....and it is done.

Take John Griggs for Calc 1 and 2 - he's the man. You'll have to work very hard, but you'll know it cold.

I've been gone from Study Hall too long.

Make SURE the course will transfer for NCSU credit before you take it at another college. There's a listing somewhere in the NCSU intraweb which will give a full listing of which courses transfer from school X to NCSU. I mention this because Calculus and a couple other courses they are VERY particular about and will only accept credit from schools which treat is as 4 credit hours / more rigorous coursework. Also check with your advisor to make sure the "transfer" listing is relatively up-to-date.

I took and transferred plenty of courses at other schools (3 from UNCC, 2 from UNC) while an undergrad. Relatively easy process and light paperwork. Just make sure it transfers and talk to your advisor about it first.
