I had him ~4 years ago. Real cool guy. Wish I could have had him for Dynamics instead of that moron Silverberg (sp). The guy messed up units 2-3 times a week it seemed like.

i had klang for mae 442 (automotive engineering), and i had to deal with him when i took my senior design class (fortunately not with him)...and i thought he was an idiot.

maybe he's better at teaching statics, though

In all fairness, MAE 206 doesn't exist to teach you anything really. It exists to ensure you have a basic grasp of 2D and 3D systems, geometry, algebra, and physics concepts. If you don't when the class starts, you either acquire those things by the end or you fail. While the professors who inflict that wretched semi-standard syllabus on you might not teach you much, it is partially because the physics and mathematics pre-requisites should have taught you everything you need to know in terms of theory, equations, and skills for the course. The sad fact is that your high school AP physics course or your stadium-sized college physics courses probably did a piss poor job of preparing you. That's what this course checks for. It's a weed out course.

So regardless of who you get it's going to be annoying - although I still think Klang, Boles, Echekki, Lyons, and Seelecke are your best bets. Either you know what you're doing because you were prepared by a strong physics and math background starting with high school geometry and therefore resent the long boring but relatively unchallenging homework and picky tests - or you weren't prepared well and struggle through the homework and picky tests and hopefully eventually get fluent enough with the material to at least pass. Sure there are other scenarios, but most of them involve failing in one way or another.

If you're having trouble or repeating the course then, assuming the professor and TA aren't much help, the best thing you can do is get a friend who does get it and is good at explaining things to help you out. Or you find a tutor. If that doesn't do it for you then it's probably time to consider a different major.

^^ EEHH Kinda. It's more there so they don't waste their time with you anywhere. I was an Aero Guy, and if you couldn't do statics you were never gonna get performance which was taken well before solids. I don't remember how the MechE's do it.

you can pretty much survive with any teacher in statics. the key to most engineering classes is reviewing example problems that are gone over in class, or ones provided in the textbook. these are extremely helpful tools to follow whlie doing the homeworks & studying for tests.

the only thing that can help in 206 is a writing robot cuz that is all i remember of that class.. my hand killing me after taking notes, after each test, and after the final.

honestly though, buckner has been the only MAE instructor i've had that i would consider a "good instructor" and ever had any motivation to go to class to hear his lectures. (had him for dynamics and controls).
