Anything fun going down on Wednesday night in Raleigh?Taking a friend of a friend out on a 1st date...looking for something other than dinner and a movie. Who's got a live band or something? Any other suggestions? I think it's supposed to rain...so kinda puts a downer on outdoor activities.

Anything going on at Charlie Goodnights?? I always like dinner and a comedy show. Is there good improv in Raleigh?? I like drinks, maybe dinner before an improv show down here in Charleston, but they have great improv. Gets the girl to loosen up, and you have something to talk about (the show) afterwards if you go for a nightcap somewhere. And if you're going to do dinner, do something interactive like sushi or a tapas place so you can share food and talk about it. I know down here in Charleston there are a lot of wine and beer dinners being set up by distributors at local restaurants (Wednesdays are actually pretty popular for this). You get a dinner set up with a bunch of different wine/beer and food pairings. Good chance to try some different kinds of wine/beer and talk about what you're drinking/eating.Raleigh's a big town...I'm sure there is some good jazz playing somewhere. Wouldn't take her to go see a band (if it's going to be loud) because you don't get a chance to talk and she might not like the band. Most girls would enjoy some good jazz that you can at least do some small talk around.Go through the entertainment section in some of the papers. You don't have to be crazy creative, just use common sense. It's not that hard.^And sports could be a good idea too if you know ahead of time that the girl is really into sports (would suck if she could care less about them). A hockey game or a Durham Bulls game could be fun. But don't know if that's necessarily a good "impress a first date" kind of idea. Might be good for a 2nd or 3rd date to show her that you're into athletics and can lay back, take it easy, grab a beer and a hot dog at a game, and have a good time.[Edited on March 31, 2009 at 12:43 AM. Wednesdays are $10 Fajita/Margarita night @ Charlie Goodnights. Purchase of either includes a ticket to the show. It's normally local acts, but every now and then you'll catch a bigger name on the cheap. Aisha Tyler was there not too long ago on a thursday, dinner for 2 + tickets to the show for $30. I'd follow goodnites up with drinks/jazz @ Zydeco.

if you are getting dating tips off of TWW or the internet, YOU ARE DEF DOING IT ALL WRONG!!!you guys are too fucking lazy these days. You need to research yourself and find something fun to do instead of getting the us to take care of the hard work for ya.[Edited on March 31, 2009 at 1:32 AM. Reason : ,]
3/31/2009 1:31:36 AM
I agree, if only there was somewhere to do research by asking similar aged people from the area what they enjoyed. Oh, wait...
3/31/2009 8:29:24 AM
^^ what the hell are you talking about? Crazy Fire is a pretty fun dinner experience that usually promotes conversation. I agree with the Charlie Goodnights idea. That is where my girlfriend and I went on our first date. Just do not do the dinner/show combo. You eat in this shit hole called Old Bar. I don't recommend it at all. There is no hockey game that night. Thursday night we have the Penguins though.

If it ends up not raining, you could take her to a park and feed the ducks. I'm not sure if ice rinks are open to the public on weeknights but you can check, ice skating is always a pretty good idea for a first date. Ice cream might be good too if it is a warm night. I think there is an observatory in Morehead which could be cool, but again, if it is raining/cloudy then I doubt it would be worth it.

Hey take that girl on the back of that bike of yours! Bikes= the NEW panty droppers... ;-) JK but seriously... take her on the bike to Harris Lake. There are some cool twisties and it should start looking green and very pretty. You could plan so that you can either pick up some food or bring food (something that will fit in a bookbag) and eat there at the Harris Lake Park. It kinda takes you away from the city life and brings you to a place where you can relax and talk when you're not riding. just make sure that girl is wearing protective gear... It kills me to see girls on the back of bikes and their pretty legs are just as bare as can be Good luck with whatever you decide to do

Berkeley Cafe has open mic night every Wednesday. I haven't been in a few years, but it was always really chill when I used to go.

Wendy's drive thru, call her fat for not ordering off $.99 menu, drop off old date, then drive to Thee Men's Club and enjoy new date.
3/31/2009 9:27:40 PM
find a nice loungy type place and go for a few drinks then call it a night since this is your first date. This leaves you with options. You can call it an early night if you don't like her. If you two hit it off and then call it a night, you will leave her with wanting more. Makes getting that second date pretty easy.[Edited on April 1, 2009 at 10:17 AM. Reason : p]

^^^^The problem with Mosaic is that it's always really dark in there. Depending on how attractive your date is, that can be either a good or bad thing.
4/1/2009 4:40:16 PM
^ lol.
4/1/2009 5:22:22 PM
If this was in Chit Chat I would have said "Your Mom's house"but it's not Chit Chat, so I will say bowling
4/1/2009 5:24:35 PM
My theory is that first dates should be the get to know you date and build comfort. No better way to get to know someone when booze is involved. Then on the next date (if she's not a nut job), you can plan something fun together like bowling, ice skating, cooking dinner, etc. Plus it makes the first date cheaper. Sucks when you have to blow money on someone you don't like.
4/1/2009 5:32:34 PM
sports, comedy, live band, etc. anything that is fun but allows you two to still talk to one another.
4/1/2009 7:14:23 PM
ice skating is fun

Try welding, a bike ride to the NC Art Museum complete with picnic, or go get coffee and dessert.

museums definitely get my vote as well

Took her to the Saucer last night. Got some food, a couple drinks...LOTS of conversation. We were there from like 8:30-12:30....Went extremely well, and she made it very clear she wants a 2nd date. I have tickets to the hockey game on tuesday night, but not sure if I want to wait that long to see her again...
