A friend and I are having a discussion while watching re end of this hornets game. He believes college basketball players want to win more than pros. I tend to disagree and believe pro ball players want to win just as bad if not more. For shits and giggles what are the thoughts out there?

= desire to win[Edited on March 29, 2009 at 10:53 PM. Reason : d]

i think both college and pro players want to win more than NC State basketball players

College bball games mean relatively more than pro games, since there is less of them. So winning them is a bigger deal. I don't think they have more desire though -- both college and pro players want to win.

regular season base/basketball games, the pros tend not to care as much
3/29/2009 11:08:53 PM
No one plays a game if the don't want to win. Not for very long, at least.

There are so many games in the pros that imo it appears they don't care sometimes, but they care in all big games, and they care in close games and always in playoffs. I think the biggest problem with pro basketball from a fan standpoint is the ridiculously long regular season. I don't mind the 7 game series in playoffs although they maybe should do 5 until the finals. If they played even as few as 50 or 60 it would be better I think.

Yeah, I'm not sure that NBA players care less, they just play a lot more games. Side effects of that are:1. Hustling all out on every play will makes you dead tired by the end of the season.2. Each game means less in the grand scheme of things so flying into the stands for a loose ball for one win isn't nearly as important.

It's not like college players play hard all the time either.Pretty much every large conference team have a non-conference schedule packed with cupcakes.

I think the point is that if you told the NBA players that they have 30 games to decide who gets in the playoffs, it would be a damn good brand of basketball because people would be playing their knutesacs off. Instead, they play every other night on average for several months and then play a ridiculously long playoff if they get there...which half the teams do. In college, you get basically 20 games (the cupcakes don't count) to prove your worth in the top of your conference or the top 40 out of 300 teams. Of course it looks like they're playing harder...there's more riding on every game. IMO though it doesn't mean that the pro's don't play hard. They just don't go balls to the wall for 40 minutes like a lot of college games do. (there's another point....the 48 minute game takes a little away too imo)

years ago i turned on a Celtics basketball game on and was appauled at what i saw. I cant remember who they were playing but both teams were half assing it up the court passing and taking very uninspiring shots. The game looked like it was in slow motion.... players looked old.......lazy.... just like people fuckin around in the backyard or somethin. It's one of the reasons i refuse to watch NBA basketball today. $$$$$$$$

How bad do you think the shittiest NBA teams would stomp the best college teams?
3/30/2009 11:39:46 AM
Are you questioning LeBron James's desire to win?
3/30/2009 11:48:44 AM
^^ depends on the rules. 48 min game and pro 3 point line and I would guess 40+. college 3 point line and 40 minute game and I think the college team may be able to keep it under 40, possibly.

I dunno, UNC basically is playing with an NBA lineup. I think they would have a chance to make a good game out of it.
3/30/2009 11:56:15 AM
LeBron was on 60 minutes last night. I like that guy.UNC isplaying with future NBAers. They'd be going up against veterans.

^Shit this year's team is nowhere near 2005 talent. Lawson is a first round pick and the closest thing to a sure NBA player. Green, Hansbrough, and Ellington MIGHT contribute. I do think Green will be a better pro than college player ALA Vince Carter.
3/30/2009 11:58:50 AM
Which set of lane violation rules would be used, pro or college?
3/30/2009 11:59:03 AM
NBA players would absolutely destroy any college team you put them up against. And NBA players care just as much as college...just maybe not for every game during the regular season because it's so long. The NBA playoffs are some of the best/most exciting times during the sports calendar. The Clippers, however, only care for about the first 10-15 games of the year.
3/30/2009 4:07:14 PM
the old nba players dont care therefore i won't watch is played out.players take plays off in every sport, college & prohope you dont like MLB, i see half of my favorite players cruising to first on a ground ball to short stop.NFL wideouts take plays off all the time as well
3/30/2009 4:36:41 PM
then Julius Peppers would've been a hell of a wideout[Edited on March 30, 2009 at 4:39 PM. Reason : x]
