My computer has a problem with .png (extension). The icons/pics/maps using .png don't show on my computer. It has red x on them. They are like this (screenshots);I use windows vista, and the problem has started about 2 weeks ago.It seems the .png icons/maps/pics show well under administrator account (main account: my dad).I heard if I disable UAC, .png may work fine.... but I don't wanna disable UAC.Anyone, please please help me out for this problem...

UAC blows. Turn it off and don't worry about it if that fixes the problem.

don't turn it off - it will fuck up other permissions.use tweakUI so UAC runs be is suppressed

and fuck up other permissions? why not just let tweakUI take care of it and not worry about the rest of the bs

Never had a problem with mine being turned off. What permissions do you mean?

Or you could just buy a Mac and not worry about any of this garbage.

http://www.vistax64.com/vista-account-administration/72581-dear-microsoft-uac-png-wmp-issues-should-addressed-6.html#post577529And before you run any registry fixes you should create a backup of your registry file. To do this click on start, type "regedit" in the search box and press enter. Now click on file... export... select "all" at the bottom (so you export the entire registry) and give it an obvious name and dump it on your desktop. If his fix really fucks up something with your computer, you should be able to get back into vista in safe mode and double-click on your registry backup file and overwrite all the registry entries with the working ones (and presumably undo any damage).Likely that fix will work with no issues though as a lot of people said it worked in that thread.

^^^ disabling UAC didn't allow me to change/rename/delete/move files under C:, wouldn't let some programs run properly. ^^I'd rather have something that's more functional, non-elitist, and has at least 2 mouse buttons

^I think by more functional he means that you can't use something like tweakUI to disable features that you can't normally disable so that you don't mess up permissions.[Edited on March 27, 2009 at 6:16 PM. Reason : .]

what he should have said is "NOT 40% MORE EXPENSIVE"
3/27/2009 6:16:49 PM
oh, well, in that case, OS X is still more functional due to the fact you have the entire BSD subsystem to play with if you so desire, lolalso: http://secrets.blacktree.com/

no, i fully understand.i just don't think of it as being "elitist" - i buy things i can afford that i personally want to have.i think the "elitist" label only applies to those who purchase expensive things simply to show that they can afford to do so.also, that's only really partially true.http://gizmodo.com/5065133/the-truth-about-the-apple-tax]

^Is it really so hard to STFU about your apparent Mac addiction every time someone posts a problem with their PC? Seriously, find another place to proclaim your rabidly undying love and worship for a piece of technology. As far as I can tell, the rest of us are here to help people find solutions for their problems and keep track of obscure problems in case we run into them later. Well, that and keeping track of new stuff going on in the technology world. At the very least, leave this thread, you've produced nothing of value to the OP or this forum.Dieselshirt:Looks like your solution has been posted by Mindstorm ... you didn't mention if that solved your problem or not, what is the status?[Edited on March 28, 2009 at 12:54 AM. ^^See, now that is a perfect example of more for less. I expected more out of your trolling and all I got was less.I feel so disappointed, queen.what I was expecting is an explanation on how its more for less and not just more expensive. Maybe we should start at the basics... maybe you'll learn something.[Edited on March 28, 2009 at 3:50 PM. Reason : .]
