sure they go together.Need to pay attention to color combinations obviously. The cost varies wildly depending on quality and who installs.

Yeah, we did hardwood, ceramic tile, and carpet in the house we renovated.Hardwood is going to run you at least $3/sqft for materials, and like ^ said the labor cost is going to vary a lot. Generally the contractor should get a better price on the materials, but if you wanted to do it yourself there are solutions out there made from proper, real wood (prefinished).Ceramic tile is really variable, and depending on what sort of tile you put down you could be spending anywhere from $2/sqft for cheap industrial grade tiles (lowe's has some) up to $16/sqft or more for the fancy shit. Labor shouldn't be too bad on tiles depending on your contractor.Hardwood floors will cost you a lot more than carpet, most likely. They'll last forever and only need to be refinished about every ten years, though. If you decide to go the hardwood route and want to keep these floors for a long time, get real flooring, not the engineered shit. Engineered stuff generally doesn't take too well to (or rather, isn't designed for) refinishing. As far as color coordinating goes, just hold up a sample of the carpet/hardwood/tile up to one another and up to your wall color. If you look at it and think to yourself "ok that doesn't look right" then you know to pick something else.[Edited on March 26, 2009 at 2:54 PM. Reason : Oh, and don't get white carpets. Dirt shows like hell.]
