You'd have to be pretty dumb to pay for the cigarette butts of others. I'm hoping that the next time the rent is due they'll attempt to make me pay a few dollars. It might be the most fun I have that day. Do they really think people will pay a fine for this? lol

If you walk around the complex, I'm sure you'll find some cigarette butts, but no more than you would find at any other complex. They don't charge for dog shit, which is far more unappealing than cigarette butts. THEY DON'T CHARGE FOR THE RAT SHIT IN THE APARTMENTS (this place is infested).

The notice on my door today was good for a laugh. I might frame it.

and yes, when I lived at wolf creek a few years ago they said they were going to do this, but I don't know if they ever actually charged anyone. They prey on the mostly true assumption that the kids living there are on their parent's dime and likely will just go ahead and pay the charges without much fuss.

When I lived at Campus Edge Ivy Chase I lived on the 1st floor. I was more concerned with the bottles/cans and vomit in the bushes in front of my porch than the cig butts.

I'll bet there is a clause in your lease that says you can be charged for cosmetic damage you cause. IF it also says that damage not traceable to any one tenant will be split amongst all of you, then you have no choice but to pay it or risk breaking your lease agreement. The dorms on campus do this (charge everyone in a suite for damage if no one person is blamed for it) so it's completely possible that you are legally required to pay.

If you aren't throwing any butts down, then I'd start a dialogue with the company you lease with. Let them know you aren't doing it and will discourage others to do it and they will probably leave you out of the cost splitting... This is all assuming you aren't an asshole and they believe you, of course.
