I don't think a $300,000 Gillig bus is the best answer.

Damn no love for a Trooper in here. Its been trouble free for 55k, 1 used starter and 1 used alt. Best beater I have ever had.[Edited on March 20, 2009 at 10:08 PM. Reason : guilgui;hoi;ujoip;'jp'i]

i'm not in a huge hurry cuz i'm borrowing a car i can use till whenever, but i'm ready when the right deal comes a long. under $2k would be great. an old '60s or '70s truck would be pretty sweet, but i think they'd probably go for too much, eh?

buy my camry sir$1500
3/21/2009 7:05:48 AM
any old honda will work

You know you can always find an e30 for $1k-$2k.
3/21/2009 10:53:33 AM
Not really true anymore. I would love a 325i or is or even an old rabbit gti, $1500 doesn't get you anywhere with either of those cars atthis point...

http://raleigh.craigslist.org/search/cta?query=bmw&minAsk=min&maxAsk=2000There are plenty of them out there that would make a fine DD. If you want a well sorted one that has been updated to handle sport driving you'll probably spend a little more, but Dan already has the experience to turn a DD into a sporting car if he decides to do so later.

i was of course after an E30 at first, but ive pretty much ruled 'em out due to cost. they're a bit overvalued i think right now. I'd love to get one, it'd be perfect in fact.

for e30's and e36's only the most desirable models and trim levels are overpriced. if you can settle for something that not everyone else wants, you can get a great deal.i had an '86 325es auto, probably the least desirable e30 there is. paint and body in decent condition, interior good except for the usual e30 dash cracks. i bought the car for $1400 drove it for 3 years and put a ton of miles on it, and sold it for $800. In that time I only had to replace tires and rear strut mount, i was actually planning on keeping the car till it died but it just wouldn't so i got bored and had to sell it.so if you can settle with an eta or a 318 you should definitely be able to find a decent bmw in your price range (if you wanted to go that route)

Yeh, ETAs aren't bad. Some friends and i built an ETA LeMons car. Its a torqey bastard adn the torque worked outperfectly witha 3.73 at CMP for the race. There were chicanes setup so the top speed was only around 90mph so the motor and gearing were perfect It was the 3rd fastest car around the track.318s are cool too. I guess i'd want a 89+ with newer bumpers and a 325i would be nice so it could become a track rat some day in the future. Actually a sunroofless 318 would make a great chassis.I do see convertables all over, but screw that.

those powerwheels are hella reliable, though they're a lot faster when you're 4 than 14

sounds like there will be a 911 for sale soon.
