(so i don't make the thread 1680 pixels wide)

just set up directory services on my mac. deleted my local account and changed ownership of everything in my old home directory to my domain username and the domain users group. gave my domain account admin privs on the machine.

i logged in, and i saw that...

the dock behind the one on top appears to contain the default icons, same for the menu bar...

any ideas? repairing disk permissions now to see if that helps... but i'm thinking this one's going to require some plist hacking.

It looks like there are 2 instances of your desktop running, which I didn't think was possible.

in top, do you see 2 dock apps?

if you do ps -ax (or something like that), it shows you who launched what process from where, with what flags. That could hlep you shed some light.

see, the really retarded thing is that i've definitely pranked people by doing that before and knew that i could never fall for it

...

i guess i wasn't expecting to prank myself

i figured out why it happened - the menu bar and the dock are small enough on a thumbnail of 1680x1020 that i just didn't see them and assumed that was just my regular desktop wallpaper

still retarded though
