while everybody else was off pumping quarters in SF2, my poor ass could only walk to my local 7/11 which had King of Fighters '95 so maybe im the only one excited, lol

how are these games remotely entertaining anymore?I was never really into them but the interest I did have went away in about 1991
3/16/2009 11:01:43 AM
this game is gonna be sick, its completely handdrawn and the sprites look amazing. Also kof 98 ultimate match just got released and its like 20 bucks at gamestop.
3/16/2009 1:05:13 PM
I would've loved for Street Fighter IV to be HD, sprite art. Shit looks nice. That's probably the two gayest fighters to put up for a screenshot though
3/16/2009 1:10:48 PM
Hahaha that dude looks like Beavis.

I wish the arcade scene would return for fighting games, even if the machines were just in a food court at the mall.I remember being 11-14, walking into an arcade, heading to the SFII or KI machine, and proceeding to beat all the high school/college aged guys while their hot girlfriends looked on. Their girls would talk to me. They'd get pissed. My dad would sometimes be there, and he'd laugh, and talk shit to them about how they got their ass kicked by a kid.For those of you in your early 30s.. if you played fighting games during the golden era, and frequented Aladdin's Castle or Putt-Putt in Winston-Salem.. it's certain that I beat you soundly and then macked on your girlfriend while you retrieved more tokens from the token machine.[Edited on March 16, 2009 at 2:21 PM. ^^ so the first fighting game didnt come out until 1994 huh?
3/16/2009 7:11:25 PM
Well Obi-Wan? Did it?
3/16/2009 8:30:36 PM
^^I think he thought you were referring to the King of Fighters series, not fighting games in general. As for your original question, "these games" (by which I'm assuming mean fighting games) are entertaining the same way shooters and numerous other genres are that haven't advanced much. They're instantly gratifying and the good ones have a lot of depth that you can explore if you want. Frankly I think the same thing when I watch most sporting events.[Edited on March 16, 2009 at 8:35 PM. Reason : ^dude, don't be dick]
3/16/2009 8:34:20 PM
he was so quick to try to correct me even though he was completely wrongSporting events have history and traditions that a game, especially a fighting game cant touch. The only people that dont like sports are the ones that got their asses kicked in HS by "jocks" and never moved on... As for depth, I dont see it. You are basically repeating the same maneuvers over and over again. The only "skill" involved is pumping enough quarters in to learn the moves[Edited on March 16, 2009 at 8:43 PM. Reason : d]
3/16/2009 8:38:06 PM
Eh, whatever. The 'traditions' and 'history' of sporting events can't hold my attention for more than 15 minutes. Different strokes for different folks.^There's more to it than just learning the moves. I learned how all the pieces move in chess and will still get my ass handed to me by a decent player.
3/16/2009 8:43:09 PM
its whoever pumps in the most quarters
3/16/2009 8:46:34 PM
well if you say so. you're clearly the expert here.

anyone else find it weird how jaybee comes in threads he claims to have no interest in and makes like 30 posts calling other people nerds?
3/17/2009 1:37:24 AM
jaybee sucks. he's a dick in pretty much every thread he posts in.
3/17/2009 2:21:47 AM
^^ never called anyone a nerd^ not at all, just when people are talking about dumb things
3/17/2009 9:04:36 AM

pile o' quarters
3/17/2009 10:04:25 AM
just ignore him, hes obviously trolling....
3/17/2009 12:33:36 PM
well yeah, obviously, but he's wrong too. madden is a great example. i like watching football but dont know how to call plays for shit. i am WAY better at video games in general than my friend (execution wise at least), but the game is always close because despite my mad skills. fighters are generally pretty deep (though I don't bother learning them that well). characters have the special moves obviously, but you also need to know everyone elses moves and which ones take priority over yours. knowing when to block, when to jump, etc. this is why i suck at street fighter.
3/17/2009 12:53:26 PM
3/17/2009 1:19:24 PM
^^ but thats my point... these games are like that, but even worse... its just pure "memorize the moves before someone else does and then they have to catch up while getting their asses kicked". They are ALMOST identical as that stupid fucking Dragon's Quest game; only difference is you are playing someone else most of the time. Someone brought up the chess example... learning HOW the pieces move in chess isnt hard, you can learn that in 10 minutes, but its the strategy of what to do with them that takes time/effort. With fighting games its the opposite. Its just learning the damn moves, over and over and over. Its just really boring to me... I kind of liked them when I was 12 but I soon wanted something with more depth. That video above stated it perfectly.
3/17/2009 1:26:00 PM
I wondered what Jaybee would be doing in a King of Fighters threadHow surprised I am to see him being a gigantic fucking douche
3/17/2009 1:34:46 PM
^^ but that was mine/their point. part of it is skills. you need to reflexes to do it. part of it IS memorizing the controls. certainly if you can pull of a 10 hit combo you are going to do better than me once you actually do hit me. what is different though is that different characters have to adapt their play style to defeat other characters. in street fighter for example, i might play against Ken or I might end up against zangief. Ken players are a bunch of bitches that fireball whiel you are far away and then jump in and dragon punch (the less killed ones at least). i need to know to expect that and adapt to handle it. when they come in, i know to expect the dragon punch so i block low. knowing that their move (the dragon punch) leaves them momentarily vulnerable allows me to pull off one of those combos i memorized. smart ken players dont do the punch because that is what i'm expecting. they end up hitting me instead. strategy. zangief obviously cant do those punches and instead always comes in for the grab. ive got to be more defensive and keep away from him (where as ken would just fireball me like a wussy bitch if i ran away). if i just jump in and do my memorized combos i wouldnt get far at all.
3/17/2009 1:40:43 PM
^^ hahaha^ I like backing up all the way, and flipping constantly against the side of the screen and kicking when someone came near me... cant remember the game but it always worked haha.
3/17/2009 1:45:09 PM
^^Decent example of how strategy and tactics matter. Anticipating your opponent's moves plays a huge role in winning.^That would get shut down pretty easily by someone with decent skills.

who else doesnt like sports?ok, foreigners, aside from them, who else?
3/17/2009 2:21:40 PM
Regular people with tastes different from yours?
3/17/2009 2:26:31 PM
no... tastes different from me would be them liking other sportsI dont see how anyone just doesnt like ALL sports irregardless... no way, you have to make an effort to not like something so broad that much
3/17/2009 2:27:57 PM
Who doesn't like math? Who doesn't like rap music? Who doesn't like cheese?Jesus Christ, Jaybee. Not everyone is you.
3/17/2009 2:30:49 PM
Interestingly, I said that about "most sporting events". I was never beat up by a jock in high school (or middle school).
3/17/2009 2:30:55 PM
I guess my point is this:a good football video game should be able to be played (and played well) by someone who has never touched a controller before but knows football. Vince Lombardi should be able to play a good football video game because he has superior football knowledge. It's knowledge of the subject that is important, not a knowledge of weird combinations of joystick movements and buttons. The interface itself should be really transparent, really easy, but what you DO with that is the skill part. I feel that 95% of fighting games is just being the one that knows more combination of buttons than the next guy.^^^ the proper equivalent would be "who doesnt like food?" and "who doesnt like music"[Edited on March 17, 2009 at 2:43 PM. Reason : f]
3/17/2009 2:41:14 PM
No, everyone likes food. Everyone likes some type of music. Not everyone likes sports. Those people are probably "dorks" or whatever, but they're entitled to their own interests. You really come off as an ignorant ass by thinking otherwise.
3/17/2009 2:43:29 PM
You are imposing on my interest in thinking of them that way... you are coming off as an arrogant ass
3/17/2009 2:46:27 PM
It's a shame you don't extend your objectivity to discussions about things other than sports.

no, I said this at the beginning but all of you were so blindly defending them that you didnt notice.Actually, at the very beginning I simply noted how I was no longer into them and Axelay started in with his smartass (and incorrect) comment.
