Went last night with some friends and was quite happy. The food was priced well and so was the beer they brew. Had a flight to figure out that my favorite is their Pullman Porter. Their porch also has an amazing view of downtown. Felt great last night with the awesome weather this weekend.Check 'em out if you like local brews. I hope this place sticks around for a while, the atmosphere was great. The wait staff was also more competent that most places I've been to around here. For those of you who want more info:http://www.boylanbridge.comhttp://www.newraleigh.com/articles/archive/boylan-bridge-brewpub-open-for-business

The lack of music really bothers me. Not a big deal when you're outside or when it's slammed (and being a new place in Raleigh, it'll be slammed no matter what for a while), but inside when it's quiet I feel like music is of extreme importance, and apparently the owner is adamant that there will be none.
3/8/2009 7:01:16 PM
Yeah, I've heard the same. The owner is against music, bands, and tvs. Which is fine really, I didn't miss it. If anything it made it easier to just sit back and enjoy socializing with people without having to yell over music.

went friday nightthought it was nice... wasn't big on the wonky parking (but that's nothing new downtown)
3/8/2009 7:14:46 PM
TVs make for bad conversation. It's a bar, not a club, so not having bands is perfectly fine. But a place without music of any kind makes for a bad atmosphere. AWKWARD SILENCES ABOUND!
3/8/2009 7:15:32 PM
ok here's the thingi went fridaythere was no musici enjoyed myself with my friendswe had wonderful conversation and didn't miss the music at allpubs and taverns have been in operation for hundreds of years and have somehow managed to get past the fact that some day, someone would invent this thing called "the speaker"if you don't like it, don't go[Edited on March 8, 2009 at 7:26 PM. When there's plenty of people to talk to, lots of stuff going on, etc., the normal level of bar music (or lack thereof) goes unnoticed. But two months from now, when it's 9:15 on Tuesday night and there's eleven people in there, it's going to feel like a morgue.
3/8/2009 7:21:57 PM
well goodmore business for you at jackpot
3/8/2009 7:23:25 PM
3/8/2009 7:27:51 PM
man i miss the raleigh times
3/8/2009 7:30:13 PM
i dug itbut i also agree that background music would be niceits gonna be hard to beat drinking their porter while sitting on the patioand a big to the bartender with the black hair, i liked her
3/8/2009 7:39:48 PM
is there no music at Saucer? i really have never paid attentionsame dude owns both places
3/8/2009 8:31:40 PM
3/8/2009 9:05:31 PM
^^they have music at saucer- it usually isn't on loudand they sometimes have live musicwhen did the brewpub open? I've been waiting for what seems like years....
3/8/2009 9:22:43 PM

3/8/2009 9:35:23 PM
3/9/2009 1:57:48 AM
i can't wait to check this place out.
3/9/2009 11:52:51 AM
sold out of their signature beer already?wtf
3/9/2009 4:03:45 PM
^and they completely ran out of food on saturday night. they went in sunday about 11 and started brewing more but they didn't expect to be so slammed the first few weeks and drastically under estimated the amount of beer they would need.
3/9/2009 4:47:01 PM
you would think that after spending so much time getting on their feet and watching other new places in raleigh open up, they'd know that any new place that even looks a little bit awesome is going to get crushed for the first 2-3 weeks
3/9/2009 4:58:14 PM
hearing that there's zero music, ever, negatively influences any decision for me to go check this place out.Of course, it could be worse --- it could be like Raleigh Times and play fantastic music for a while and then switch to shitty background music when the mouth breathing masses moved in on the place. In the past, I could always count on the Times playing solid music --- playing great albums from start to finish, things of that nature, now it's just hit or miss when you go. I think Landmark has one upped them on the ipod selections these days.[Edited on March 9, 2009 at 5:26 PM. Reason : .]
3/9/2009 5:26:01 PM
i've heard joy division the past 3 times i've been to the timesthey played both tapes n' tapes albums the other night as well
3/9/2009 5:29:46 PM
3/9/2009 5:31:22 PM
^^ good news..... perhaps it was just some of the bartenders they had for that stretch of time, or the nights that I happened to go.[Edited on March 9, 2009 at 5:31 PM. Reason : ^]
3/9/2009 5:31:26 PM
I can't ever recall hearing bad music at the Times. At night Jay is usually playing something awesome (Smiths, Television, Animal Collective, etc.), and during the day I can count on Brian or Kelly putting on something really cool that I haven't heard before. Hell, two weeks ago I rolled up there and drank five glasses of Petrus just becaue Goo had just started.[Edited on March 9, 2009 at 5:44 PM. Reason : e]

3/9/2009 5:44:49 PM
i heard they ran out of food opening night too
3/9/2009 5:47:16 PM
I guess I'm lucky that I'm able to maintain a conversation since it apparently is difficult to do. Sure, having good music (like Raleigh Times, for instance) is never a bad thing, but I certainly won't refuse to give the place a chance simply because there's no music to rescue me from an awkward silence. This place seems awesome. I hope to check it out soon. I hear the porch is amazing, perfect for the upcoming summer evenings.
3/9/2009 6:14:04 PM
Last time I was in Raleigh Times that had Gorillaz on repeat.
3/9/2009 6:16:39 PM
I find the lack of music appealing, personally. good music can make a place but few places actually have good music. plus what is good to some isn't good to all. on the other hand atmosphere is far more universal than music tastes and doesn't ever appeal to one particular crowd.
3/9/2009 6:48:21 PM
3/9/2009 7:25:32 PM
so after discussing it with a few friends, we're going later after a few beers at the saucermmmm porter
3/9/2009 7:30:32 PM
How the fuck do you ever run out of food...seriously.
3/9/2009 10:04:58 PM
so they are out of their beer? maybe i won't check it out this week.
3/9/2009 10:25:51 PM
i'm pretty excited to check this place out too. i've heard on this site that the porter is good, which is a plus. i'm still not sure how i'll feel about the no music thing. i can't see having no music being worse than having terrible music or even good music so loud you can't think; this seems to be the norm. either way, i'm willing to give it a shot.can't beat the view from the patio, for real.]
3/9/2009 10:51:17 PM
just got backmmmmmm
3/10/2009 12:04:18 AM

3/10/2009 2:06:06 PM
I went the sunday night opening weekend and while they had run out of some of the food, the beer was a plenty.I never even noticed there was no music. I had an awesome time despite the fact it was too cold to go outside (twas the night it started snowing)
3/10/2009 9:15:11 PM
shouldn't beer brewed at the place be cheaper?
3/10/2009 9:27:19 PM
they don't accept food stamps
3/10/2009 9:36:31 PM
dogs are allowed on the porch!
3/10/2009 9:44:51 PM
went tonight, they were out of the pale ale and bitters and some stuff on the menu, seems like they are still getting their shit together but its a nice place
3/10/2009 10:13:38 PM
they were probably just not prepared to be so busy the first couple weeks they were open. i'm sure they'll be fine in the future.]
3/10/2009 11:28:32 PM
how can you not be prepared for business on an opening week/weekendthis coupled with this no music/tv idea seems like this will be up for rent/sale by the end of the summer.
3/11/2009 3:18:16 AM
no music?so its like hanging out a brewery.
3/11/2009 8:14:44 AM
Well, yes, I imagine it is.Probably due to the fact that you are, in fact, hanging out at a Brewery.
3/11/2009 8:55:44 AM
i'm gonna bring my own damn music
3/11/2009 10:21:05 AM
