Life, it’s something Meredith Gaston is living to the fullest now. Gaston didn’t know Lauren personally but says her death has changed her life forever. “Such a reminder on how precious life is, and look at each woman on the Auburn University campus and know the impact they can have on a life,” says Gaston. It’s clear that Lauren had an impact and still does; they still talk about her, still laugh about the memories they had with her and remember what it felt like when they lost her. “Having a daughter of my own, I worry about her everyday and I can’t imagine living without her,” says Auburn Assistant Police Chief Tommy Dawson. “This morning I woke up and I was thinking, this time last year she was walking on the same campus that I’m walking on,” reflects Gaston. Although a year has passed, Lauren’s legacy lives on and it will continue to in the lives she touched. “The only way we can honor Lauren is by living it to the fullest, by living it knowing it is fleeting,” says Gaston. The man accused of killing Burk will head to court later this month. Police have charged Courtney Lockhart of Smiths Station with capital murder. Police say Lockhart confessed to the killing but has pleaded not guilty to the murder. Lockhart is currently awaiting trial. His status hearing will be March 31st in Lee County. "

a pretty white girl that was killed the same time that Eve Carson was and at one point it was thought that both girls were killed by the same person

^^ the point being, both received national coverage and continue to do so, with the common theme being their pretty white girls who remind white fathers everywhere of their "little girls".

Black girl from Central found dead on 540, and Indian Grad student at Duke were each murdered within 2 weeks of Carson/Burk, but received no coverage.

It's not really that hard to follow...

And of course those other two received coverage. Not as widespread. So how do you propose to monitor the degree of coverage? In minutes, number of pictures?

I am not saying that it's OK, but aren't the news media based upon profit? The last time I checked the majority was white in this country. Maybe they are trying to attract a large audience and make money and maybe it's not some sinister racist plot to denigrate the deaths of minorities...but whatever.
