Looking to get away for a week somewhere fun, yet by myself. I just don't want to deal with trying to convince someone else to go or deal with what they want to do when we get there. So what are some places that would be fun for a solo trip that would feel ok being solo at, so like no cruises or beach towns that aren't in metropolitan areas. Europe by train would be fun, but what about a little less extravagant?A few ideas so far:-I've always wanted to rent a convertable in San Francisco and drive the pacific coast highway to LA and stop everywhere between.-Las Vegas is always a good time

for some reason i have it set in my head that i want to do a cross country motorcycle trip solo. i don't even own a motorcycle. i don't know why, i'm not a very outgoing person, it would probably get pretty lonely in a hurry, but i just want to do something different.

NYC... if you're the outdoors type, maybe check out some of the national parks and stuff out west. I've always wanted to do that. When we went to Vegas, we rented a car and drive out to the grand canyon... that was actually a lot of fun, though we didn't get to stay for nearly as long as we wanted to.

Hike the AT for a week.
3/5/2009 10:35:13 AM
^ That's what I was going to say. There's a bunch of AT stuff on our website - it's geared more towards thru-hikers, but feel free to give me a holler if you have any questions.http://www.sourcetosea.net

^ and ^^ I was just about to say the exact same thing. Relatively speaking it can be inexpensive and cool to do on your own as well.

the AT looks awesome....but I don't think I'd want to do that alone

Go on an east coast glory hole tour!

Don't discount Europe. Go during the offseason (cheaper plane tickets), and go further East (also cheaper).

the only ones i can think of i would enjoy doing solo are either backpacking around europe or places in asia, or hittin up vegas.

DC ... check out the monuments, museums (particularly the natural history and holocaust), go tour the archives, and then head up to Georgetown. Good times.

LAS VEGASThis is the place you go when you're by yourself. This is where you see and do things that you don't want people knowing about. Buy a ticket to Sinville and make a total ass of yourself.Save those other vacations for company - most experiences are made exponentially better when you have someone to share them with.

I enjoy getaways to the mountains (App/Rockies). Quiet, meditative, beautiful.
3/29/2009 8:58:03 AM
^ I did that this weekend

I'm thinking about trying to do all or part of the West Coast Trail sometime this summer. I dunno if you're a hiker/camper, but it seems like an incredible trail in an amazing part of North America.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Coast_Trailapparently, it can be done in a week.

every now and then, i'll do a stretch on that AT with just my dog and myselfshe doesn't need a leash, and she carries her own water and food with one of those dog backpacks (silly they may look, but it sure is nice not to have to carry HER gear, too )...nature, a good book, my camera, and my dog...GREAT personal vacation

I like to have vacations at home when I'm trying to get away from everyone. It's cheap and convenient. Tell everyone you're going out of town and then just camp out at the house for a day or two. This is assuming you live alone. Otherwise it doesn't work.
