The dude was wasted and went to a press conference, maybe it was on cold medicine maybe it wasn't doesn't really matter. If I showed up at worked in his condition, I would probably get fired too.

I understand Nakagawa's dedication to his work, but given that this level of politics is all about preserving face, and Japanese society doubly so, he probably shouldn't have risked this kind of embarrassment especially given the weakened state of Aso's government. The ruling coalition that Aso inherited was a sinking ship from day one, and I don't know if crucial coalition partners like Komeito are going to put up much longer with the LDP. The DPJ is poised to take over; they probably would have done so earlier had they figured out how to take out the last of the LDP electoral machine.
