I had the pulled pork meal but last time I ordered from them there was a darker pulled meat that i liked better (was it chicken?).Anyways what is your favorite dish and side dish?I had the apple sticks which I didn't like too much and the potato salad which I thoroughly enjoyed. Are there any better BBQ places around here and if so where (near NCSU)?How does Q Shack stack up?
2/15/2009 9:27:36 PM
is the Q Shack even still around?
2/15/2009 9:28:16 PM
whatever kind of BBQ you like, the other kind is betterthere....I said it....
2/15/2009 9:28:47 PM
Red Hot and Blue potato salad is the best on earth.
2/15/2009 9:29:36 PM
^ wrong kind of BBQ...just saying
2/15/2009 9:30:23 PM
bullock's BBQ in durham owns at life.
2/15/2009 9:30:26 PM
So I'm guessing the other shredded meat with sweeter BBQ sauce (no vinegar) was chicken?
2/15/2009 9:31:15 PM
^^^ Yeah I know...but I just had to make it known b/c it's so good.[Edited on February 15, 2009 at 9:32 PM. Reason : .]

i've never been, but it might've been turkey. turkey bbq is good and is usually sweeter and no vinegar.
2/15/2009 9:36:57 PM

I wonder if Osama Bin Laden still enjoys Lexington "BBQ" (if you can even call it that)?[Edited on February 15, 2009 at 11:17 PM. Reason : l]
2/15/2009 11:16:57 PM
WHAT IS THIS SAUCE BASED BULLSHITVINEGAR FTW
2/15/2009 11:17:24 PM
You people and your fucking barbecue. It's not that great no matter which "style" you choose. Don't get me wrong, it's tough to fuck up pork, but stop pretending the shit is ambrosia sent down by the gods above. All things considered I'd rather have an average steak than the world's best "barbecue."
2/15/2009 11:19:22 PM
get out of here with that sacrilegious bullshityou're lucky I don't start a mob and have your witchcraft believing ass burned at the stake
2/15/2009 11:25:44 PM

I love eastern style barbecue, but I was craving some Stamey's today.
2/15/2009 11:44:10 PM
sweet potato sticks weren't on the menu but I heard someone ordering them later. I didn't get the banana pudding either but I ordered 7 one time
2/15/2009 11:54:09 PM
We already know The Civil War II will be fought over BBQ so we might as well get this shit over with. I'm ready to take up arms against those Lexington jackasses.
2/15/2009 11:55:03 PM
Does Lexington do less vinegar based and more sweet pork?
2/16/2009 12:02:06 AM
not a fan of ole timeI recently started enjoying the vinegar-based BBQ around here, and man, there was nothing impressive terribly good about anything I or zorthage got there.I still need to get down to Stephenson's and give them an honest try. When I was a kid, the only thing there that I'd eat were the hushpuppies
2/16/2009 12:53:55 AM
Go to Wilson... Bill's and Parker's FTW
2/16/2009 1:23:56 AM
you can argue bbq and shit, but ole time has the best hushpuppies around, and that is a certifiable fact.
2/16/2009 1:24:42 AM
^ This, I cannot argue with
2/16/2009 1:25:01 AM
having a bf that raves about this place i still have never been
2/16/2009 10:12:13 AM
oh, it's good.Good, good.Possible lunch destination in fact.
2/16/2009 10:22:09 AM
yea forget i posted in here, theres already a better thread for this
2/16/2009 10:25:00 AM
2/16/2009 11:08:30 AM
none of these chain bbq places come remotely close to the down east small time family owned bbq place (parker's, doug saul's, etc). and i'm sorry, but shredded dry pork that i pour sauce on myself is the most disgustingly wrong thing in the world to do with bbq. that said, the brisket at the q shack is okay. you can't find brisket around here much anyway. it's better than their bbq.
2/16/2009 11:11:22 AM

Dalat BBQ pork sub kills Ole Time.
2/16/2009 11:16:10 AM
can we lock this thread already
2/16/2009 11:17:17 AM
^^^ and those Lexington idiots only use the pork shoulder. I mean think about it. Down east we use the whole pig; that means there is bacon in our bbq. That automatically makes it better [/age old debate]
2/16/2009 11:31:40 AM
since I live in an apartment and have no access to outdoor space to put anything to cook pig ive been using my crock pot and half shoulders.it turns out pretty nicely and the shoulders are around 89 cents a pound.
2/16/2009 6:30:28 PM
all i'm sayin is if i wanted ketchup on my bbq, i'd put it there myself
2/16/2009 6:31:20 PM
2/16/2009 6:33:13 PM
normally I make my sauce with abunch of cider vinegar, some ketchup, some Worcestershire's sauce, pepper flakes, brown sugar and texas pete or whatever other hot sauce.pretty tasty
2/16/2009 6:41:07 PM
So what is there other pulled BBQ that doesn't have vinegar in it? Do they sell pork bbq at Ole time that isn't vinegar based or is it chicken or beef or what? I ordered a combo platter once and it was on there and it had no vinegar in it, it just taste sweet and it was dark red/brown.
2/16/2009 7:27:26 PM
the brunswick stew has pork in it??i don't know.
2/16/2009 7:28:48 PM
It came by itself as meat that was broken apart and mixed in a sweet BBQ sauce but on the menu all i saw was bbq sandwich, pulled pork bbq, brunswick stew, chicken, chicken pastries and that is it. I didn't even see brisket.
2/16/2009 7:30:15 PM
wtf are u talking about
2/18/2009 6:16:45 PM
Does Ole Time serve pulled anything other than pork? Beef, chicken, turkey?
2/18/2009 8:02:25 PM
I work next to shane's (a chain joint) up off of capital and it isn't bad. still can't beat the hushpuppies at ole time though
