where should i get my oil changed in raleigh/garner.
I hear bad things about jiffy lube. i don't want to bother learning how to do it myself since i'm borrowing my dads car while my truck is painted and some other shit

This has been a big business presentation.

really? you're an engineering major who doesn't know how to change the oil in a car?

I can understand not wanting to deal with the hassle of doing it, but you really don't know how?

A lot of girls know how to change oil.

even asians.

I will agree the Ranger is an easy oil change. But my Buick LeSabre is probably easier, and less messy. The easiest of all my cars though, was the LT1 on my Z28. It was straight up and down in the orientation, if I remember right, so it was extremely easy and just about no mess to get it off and on. Only fucking thing that wasn't a pain in the ass to work on.

I love those cars that have the oil filters in the front of the engine, so you can just reach down and grab it.

someone is forgetting any truck with a ford 260/289/302/351W you don't even have to get under it, lean over and take off the filter from the front, and you can reach the drain plug from up top too on the front sump pans

i've posted it 100 times but I changed the oil in an s2000 without a jack once.

tayshaun prince arms + I4 in an I6 engine bay ftw!!!!!!!! I reached in from the side and hoped for the best. Oil filter is an easy grab from the top.

My only question would be, how did you get the oil catch pan under your car without jacking it up?

I figured your front lip would have been too low.

G-body with the 3.8 V6==extremely easy oil change. In fact just about everything related to working on that car was cake.

I miss it every time I have to deal with the profoundly ridiculous oil filter location on my current car.

I changed the oil in my girlfriends civic without a jack, in a gravel driveway. Will never do that again.

^how is that even possible unless you drove it over a ditch or something. I couldn't get a catch can under there unless I jacked my car up.

yeah, until some Ragged over tightens the filter housing cap and cracks it resulting in an impressive oil leak.

^how is that possible? pan plus your arm trying to get an oil filter off...just don't see there being enough room for that.

There was a place in the driveway with a slight dip, nothing near a ditch, just enough to cram my claustrophobic ass under there. Had to put my arm up over my head before sliding under, otherwise I couldn't get it into position. Also just had to kind of lay in the oil from the filter because I couldn't move at all. Altogether miserable experience.

Well you can easily reach the filter from the top. keep in mind this is a RWD vehicle. the engine is mounted in the engine bay properly. the oil pan drain plug is mounted off to the side near the passenger wheel.

now how you could do a civic I have no idea. i can reach the filter from the top but i have never been able to get enough hand torque to unscrew it. i also couldn't see getting to that drain plug.

I changed my oil for the first time this summer. 00 mazda protege. The filter was a pain in the ass to reach and unscrew. Plus I didn't put the pan in the right place and made a mess. So much for beginners luck.

Not to mention being under a ton of metal (and plastic) made me claustrophobic. Its worth it to me to just get someone else to change it.

for as many times as I've changed the oil in my cars...I have yet to figure out how to get the filter off without getting oil all over my hand and arm

the RSX was less messy because the oil filter wasn't vertical (upside down) like it is in the Evo and STi.

I always use the Jiffy Lube on Western and have never had a problem. I'm always in and out quickly, and on multiple occasions they have referred me to people to fix problems they couldn't take care of. Today, they went out of their way to save me a big chunk of change on an oil change/air filter replacement.

Maybe I've just been lucky, but they've never done me wrong.

It wasn't really that big a deal, but it was noticeable. The guy asked if I had any coupons, and I said no. He said, "Sure you do. You're in AAA. Don't know how it happened, but you are right now." There went ten percent off the top. Then he spent several minutes trying to dig up a coupon for my air filter because he thought it was too expensive. He found one, and there went another chunk.

Like I say, it wasn't a whole lot that the guy did, and I guess "big chunk of change" is relative, but he was still taking steps to save me some money. For all I know, I still could've gotten the whole thing done cheaper elsewhere, but it was convenient and they were quick and helpful.

or quit being a pussy, break it loose, spin it off a few turns, and let it drain before you take it all the way off, same thing with the oil plug, loosen it while pushing it in till you feel the threads click on the last full turn, then yank it out quick, it aint rocket science

i just told you a better way, either that or punch a hole in it with a screwdriver and let it drain first
