I did a search but couldn't find anything...I am trying to RD to my pc from my laptop while on ncsu wifi. Every time I try this it just times out. Is there anything I'm missing here? Also I'm using DynDNS. I know this is possible, I've seen people access their RD from a lab computer before.

Make sure you have the right port (3389) forwarded to your pc, in your router's config. That'd be my guess.

Its possible. I used to do it all the time till I moved, and It was on campus-> off campus. Also did VPN.Check your ports and configs. if your computer is behind a router, and it NATs, make sure you have port forwarding setup right. also, even though you have it turned on on your computer (the one you want to RDP to), make sure the firewall is allowing it.

UPDATE:Apparently the only place I can connect to my desktop is from within the apartment complex I live. Has anyone heard of this? We use VBnet for cable/internet. Can they block incoming connections?

OMG FIREWALLREVOLUTIONARY!!1!

they aren't necessarily blocking connections as much as more than likely once your connection gets to the router for the building it doesn't know where to go - not sure what VBnet is but I'm assuming it's some sort of shared line for the whole building and/or complex and you are behind a router that you have no control over and thus can't forward a port or anything like thatare you paying for internet/cable or is it some sort of included price? are you able to purchase internet/cable from time warner or anything like that?from your pc in your apt. - start -> run -> cmd (enter) -> ipconfig (enter) - what does it say your IP - is it 192.168.X.X ]]

.^^assumed it was a firewall...stfu^ It's included in the price, VBnet is the isp of the apartment complex. I have my computer connected to a router so yes the ip is 192.168.1.xxx. I know I have this forwarded to the correct ports because I am able to connect from other apartments within the complex (i.e. my girlfriends apartment).just found this on their website:

will hamachi allow me to connect from outside of VBnet?
3/5/2009 4:48:51 PM
yeah, it creates a VPN tunnel that can traverse just about every network topology ever.
