Hey TWW I need some help. I am looking for a class on campus that studies repairing or tinkering with small electronic devices (like a vcr) or a campus department that will do repairs like that. Thanks for your help.D

I don't think there is anything on campus that does that. You can get a 2yr degree from somewhere like Wake Tech though to teach you those skills, if that's all you want to know.

Two years to tinker on a VCR? How much is a new one, like eight bucks?

I think there was one offered in a CHASS/non-engineering dept. that was sort of a 'How things work' that was offered a few years ago. Seems like it was a 300 level in TED maybe? They had a sheet near the elevators in Poe that mentioned it would discuss how many everyday things worked (cd-drives, cameras, etc.)

check some nearby community colleges like wake tech

^^ I took that course when it was in its developmental stages. It will not teach what he is looking for.

Actually, a new vcr like this one is like 600 bucks. Anyway, that's all I needed to know. Thanks.

if you are looking on pointers for electronic repair, talk to rudy in the ECE department. youll find him in the basement normally of EB2.

Maybe I'm out of touch with the vernacular, does a "vcr" refer to something that only plays VHS tapes to you people? If that's the case then it's a high-end professional media player (that does, actually, also play VHS tapes)... And it's givin me problems and my department can't pay to have it fixed with the money freezing happening on campus. So I thought I'd try to look for a cheap alternative solution.

lol, if you are really curious it's a JVC SR-MV45. My work uses it to play all sorts of random shit.

Yeah, it's not bad. With all the spending freezes and what not happening around the world, my department was looking for a cheap way to maybe get it fixed. Since one isn't readily available, we'll just let it stay broken for now. Thanks everyone who offered some advice./Thread
