2/9/2009 12:06:43 PM
^lol
2/9/2009 12:12:36 PM
i've got high hopes for this one, it will be nice to see demetri come up with new material consistently, i'm sure his first show will have a lot of his tried and true stuff.Has to be better than chocolate news, hopefully better than sarah silverman
2/9/2009 12:18:40 PM
probably not gonna be as good as season 2
2/9/2009 12:22:41 PM
Really looking forward to this. Love his humor.
2/9/2009 3:38:50 PM
i'm gonna treat this like everything else about demetri martinnobody has profited more from the death of mitch hedberg than this guyand now he's trying to profit off of dave chapelle's breakdownsoyeah, until it makes me wet my pants from hilarity, fuck this show
2/9/2009 6:19:42 PM
How did Demetri profit off of the death of Hedberg? They tell some similar jokes, but Demetri's style is waaaaaaaay off from Hedberg, which made him a very unique and specialized comedian. And comparing him to Chapelle? Go troll someone in Chit Chat.

2/9/2009 6:29:32 PM
woodfoot, you're off your rocker. turn your ire towards "comedians" like carlos mencia and dane cook.
2/9/2009 6:40:29 PM
about a year ago I saw him get out of a cab on my street and the walk with a confused look on his face the opposite direction from me. thats all i got.
2/9/2009 7:43:19 PM
so tww official position is what? demetri martin is getting less hip by the day? i can go with that.
2/9/2009 10:22:41 PM
i heard him on Fresh Air last week. He was 100% dry the whole time. I understand that is his type of humor, but the problem in the interview was you couldn't tell if he was telling a joke or being serious. It make it hard for Terri Gross, because she wasn't sure if she was supposed to laugh when he, for example, said something strange about his family, or if he was being serious about it.
2/9/2009 10:37:06 PM
Terry Gross's interview skills can be lacking. Last week she asked a transvestite if he still had a dick. He sounded pissed.
2/9/2009 11:51:04 PM
I think Daniel Tosh needs a show, he is much funnier
2/10/2009 1:20:58 AM
i would watch the shit out of a daniel tosh showbut yes, to me, demetri martin is biting mitch hedbergs writing style, and a bit of his deliverywhen i saw him live a couple years ago i walked out going "man, mitch would have done at least 2/3 of those jokes, and he would have done them better"and com'on, when you've seen him live or on his specials - did you ever think "you know what this guy needs? a sketch comedy show!"its comedy central trying to catch the chapelle's show lightning in a bottle againso, no, i'm not trollingbut i will say this:
2/10/2009 1:30:14 AM
2/10/2009 1:42:59 AM
Now throw in some Steven Wright and you've got yourself a party.
2/10/2009 1:57:23 AM
OH SNAPCALLED OUT

Failed Musicians:Jack BlackStephen LynchDemetri MartinStephen Wright Knockoffs:Demetri MartinMitch HedbergBill Hicks Knockoffs:Dennis LearyMiscellaneous Theifs:Dane CookCarlos MenciaAll that said, Demetri Martin has a few funny jokes and i'll watch the show, but i'm betting that i get irritated by his urban outfitters nerdy approach
2/10/2009 10:09:11 AM
I'd never compare Demitri Martin's act to Mitch Hedberg's. True the writing is the same, but neither pioneered that style of observational jokes. One plays a serious, lucid, alien observer with full-on deadpan and 4th wall. The other plays the drug-addled, brain damaged spacer with no 4th wall (he sometimes laughs at his jokes).
2/10/2009 11:03:51 AM
I wouldn't consider Demetri Martin a failed musician. I don't think he ever claimed to be one and iirc he was in law school when he decided to do comedy instead. He just plays very simple, goofy music to go with his jokes.
2/10/2009 11:08:41 AM
^maybe not as much, but i've never been into 'funny songs' of most sorts
2/10/2009 11:15:32 AM
He doesn't really do "songs" at all. He just plays a background tune and then tells jokes over it.
2/10/2009 11:51:05 AM
then why do it? just seems like useless extra shit to me.meh, i'm fine if i'm alone on thinking that.
2/10/2009 2:12:44 PM
while i agree that mitch hedberg and steven wright are very similar, they are also very differentWright's jokes have stuff that is like unrealistic:"i spilled spot remover on my dog and now he's gone""i accidentally put my car keys into my apartment building and started it up. so i drove it around for a while"Hedberg's stuff is more real, stuff that could actually happenim not criticizing either, im just sayin that they are not one in the same
2/10/2009 5:18:36 PM
why does someones similarities to another comedian mean they aren't funny?
2/10/2009 10:13:22 PM
i agree, demetri martin and mitch hedberg are exactly the same. both of them tell jokes that make me laugh.
2/11/2009 12:18:39 AM
i like all of these guys, it's just that i feel the guitar and harmonica add nothing. i think demetri has some really funny material.however, if you don't understand why thievery could make an artist of any sort less appealing, then i don't know what to say.

EVERY ROCK BAND AFTER THE BEATLES ARE A BUNCH OF FUCKING POSERS AND THIEFS![Edited on February 11, 2009 at 3:23 AM. Reason : .]

2/11/2009 7:31:12 AM
i wasn't talking about martin specifically. i think i was drunk when i posted that, making it harder to clearly state my point, and now i've forgotten what it was. something about similarities not being the same thing as having stolen an act, which people like dane cook and mencia have done, ... i don't know, i'm watching the show regardless.and you most definitely can steal something if it's part of a genre, that statement makes no sense to me. dennis leary stole bill hicks whole fucking act, his attitude and persona. [Edited on February 11, 2009 at 12:06 PM. Reason : x]
2/11/2009 12:05:45 PM
Who gives a shit? Funny is funny, I could care less who tells it or where they got it from as long as it makes me laugh.
2/11/2009 2:58:25 PM
2/11/2009 8:29:47 PM
bttt so that other guy looks dumb
2/11/2009 10:41:22 PM
The sketches were hardly tied at all to his central theme, but are still pretty good.Though demitri trying to do slapstick-ish comedy in the anger scene just came off as awkward... and not in the way that demitri's comedy normally is supposed to come off as awkward... The sketch was the bad kind of awkward.Besides that, pretty good so far. Kinda random though, and without any real flow between scenes. Then again that works decently with demitri's stuff.
2/11/2009 10:47:11 PM
I'd rather it be random than have a forced flow that ends up bringing the whole show down.
2/11/2009 10:54:14 PM
Time Gigolo was great (was that Amy Poehler?)The actors one was hilarious in the middle, kinda weak ending. I was surprised to see Amanda Peet in this show. That time rap thing was dumb.
2/11/2009 11:05:20 PM
Amanda Peet? sah-weeti wonder if this will be on hulu
2/11/2009 11:08:14 PM
the laugh track on top of the audiences' laughter is BRUTAL
2/11/2009 11:12:16 PM
If I was going to do Betsy Ross I would have done it when she was younger.
2/11/2009 11:27:58 PM
overall, i was unimpressed; and I enjoy Demetri's standup.
2/12/2009 12:05:40 AM
2/12/2009 12:12:36 AM
I'd say the show would have been better if they'd just let demitri do his usual standup style routine for half an hour. Then again they'd probably run out of content for new episodes a lot faster.
