I loved the first game and apparently this is the "leaked" trailer for the second.

http://www.vg247.com/2009/02/06/source-leaked-dead-rising-2-trailer-is-the-real-deal/

Looks like Vegas, should be bad ass, especially if you actually are in the city, not just stuck to one casino.

this would be cool...if they actually added in-game saves or save points that were closer together, it was always bs to work on a case forever and then you have to start over bc of crappy save mechanics

I agree with that. But I still loved the first. And the hamster ball or whatever in this one looks baller. I would kill for coop though.

theres a pretty cool video on the main 360 dashboard of some new weapons and scenes from the game...looks like it will be fun

here's the official trailer

its about 2:30 long, whereas the trailer in the OP was only a minute, cause thats all that was out when this thread was created

The best part of this is the whole item-combining system they're adding. Got a long stick and some duct tape and a chainsaw? Fuck it, make a chainsaw-polearm weapon. Got chainsaws and a motorcycle? Tape those shits to the handlebars.

...I just hope they make it open enough for players to improvise rather than only having a handful of construction patterns or forcing players to find blueprints before they can combine items or something. I wouldn't expect most good game studios to make those mistakes, but then again, these are the same guys that added a strict timeline and escort quests to a zombie-mall-rampage game.

in the first game you could get a couple of books from the bookstores in the mall and get a couple chainsaws and wield them both

also the moosehead thing looks awesome, you just put a moosehead on your head and run through a crowd and the antlers kill whatever zombies get in the way

I really hope that they fix the AI for any survivors. The only thing more frustrating than the save system was trying to escort a few people. There were so many times that I would yell for them to follow me or go somewhere and they'd either A) Get stuck behind a wall or bench or something B) Randomly start attacking zombies/cultists or C) Run RIGHT INTO a group of zombies rather than around them or through a path that I cleared. Plus it was a pain in the ass to help them once zombies were around cause I'd always end up hitting them with the chainsaw when I was only trying to get the zombie.

haha a couple of weeks ago i fired Dead Rising up again and got the Saint (get 50 survivors out of the mall) and Transmissionary (hear every call from Otis) achievements. the survivor AI made this ridiculously frustrating... i got about an hour in and remembered why i didn't originally try for them.

probably the most rewarding achievements i've gotten ha.

considering that's probably people's number one complaint (aside from the save system, which i didn't really have an issue with), i hope it's addressed in DR2

^ah yeah, you'd be in the middle of a bunch of zombies and that dude would keep calling you. When you finally pick up he'd get all pissed at you if you had to get a weapon out and put away the walky talky. SORRY ABOUT THAT NEXT TIME I'LL LET MY FACE GET EATEN WHILE YOU TELL ME ABOUT SOME DUDE HIDING IN A JEWELRY STORE.

^^^^Yeah, I definitely killed my share of survivors with the chainsaw. Even if I was sure to just jump-kick the enemies off of them when they got grabbed, sometimes they'd walk up right beside me while I'm wildly swinging at a group of zombies.

I found the best way to escort was generally to carry around as many shotguns as possible and/or escort your whole group past the gun store to grab more. What I really hated were those crippled bitches who had to rest on your shoulder and couldn't carry any weapons or walk around by themselves. The hand-holders weren't too bad, though, since they didn't really slow you down much and even made it harder for zombies to grab you, but the goddamned helpless shoulder-resting survivors I just got frustrated with and let them die.

Worth a bump since this is out today...has anyone picked it up yet?

IGN rated it as an Editor's Choice pick, and I wasted away entire days playing the first one, so I'm thinking about picking this up after work.

"Zombies now seem to focus entirely on Chuck so you don't have to babysit a group of survivors as you escort them back to the safe house. The game asks if you want to save after big moments, there are multiple save slots this time around, and it seems like there are more bathrooms to save in than ever. These complaints from the first game have been addressed. "

played for a couple hours, very fun, loading can take awhile but they fixed some of the problems with DR1...im only at level 4 or 5 right now (max is 50) but i can tell its going to be a little easier than DR1, but I think thats a good thing...and i havent even scratched the surface but i like it a lot so far

Yeah I played an hour or two last night. Not going to like the whole Katey thing, but really think I'm going to like the combining of items. Feels like the "world" is much bigger in this one, so still plenty of areas to go look around and haven't gotten my bearings quite yet. I was fairly comfortable with all the areas of DR1, but I'm sure after a few more hours of play I'll be more familiar.

Is it just me or did the sheriff guy look like a Kris Kristofferson clone? Haha.

Got this yesterday and played for about an hour before trivia...the biggest thing that jumped out to me is the improvement of the survivor follower system. In DR1 I got to the point where I'd just ignore survivors all together because of how big a pain in the ass it was to get them pack. I've escorted 2 or 3 back so far, and all have been pretty smooth (didn't have to loop back every 3 seconds to collect them from a crowd of zombies).

I also imported my character from DR2 Case Zero, and it went pretty smoothly. I had my level, zombie count, and points, but no weapons or combo cards seemed to transfer over (I could be wrong on the combo cards).

My only gripe so far is that the dual attacks on the weapons can be annoying. For example, I'll intend to only swing the spiked bat, but if you press the button for just a split second too long, you end up doing the heavy attack, which has less range, and has caused me to miss and get grabbed by zombies a few times already.

^^yeah saving survivors is a lot easier...I've only saved a couple so far, but it seems like you can just run through a crowd of zombies while mashing the 'Y' button (on 360) which is the button to call the survivors to you...and when the survivor(s) does brush up against a group of zombies, they kind of just say "ugh!" and bounce off of them like a smart running back bouncing off a block

also not to give away any spoilers, even though its just the game intro, I got 3rd place on my first attempt at Terror Is Reality, and his girls dissed me...then I restarted the game, got like 25,000+ points and 1st place ($10k prize money)...but TK's girls still gave me the cold shoulder

Played this a little while longer last night and I'm still loving it. With the size of the map, I've only barely scratched the surface of what's available, which is exciting.

I'm starting to see the double edged nature of improving the survivor follower mechanic, though. The mechanic is so effective at the followers not getting hung up with zombies that rescues have started to become a little bit of a monotonous chore. I've only played one rescue mission that involved a boss so far, and those are certainly more interesting, but it's almost been a little too easy to get survivors back.

In DR1 part of the challenge of choosing to help a survivor was really having to weigh the time commitment it would take to get their clumsy asses back vs. the time you had left to do the main story mission. While it was definitely maddening getting halfway back, only to see those asshole convicts roll up in the courtyard and mow your cargo down (or to just have them get stuck every 5 feet in a crowd of zombies), it was still more of a challenge than running along, making sure to hit Y occasionally.

I'm not trying to down an improvement in the game, so I'll hope that it gets a tiny bit more challenging, but I'm starting to miss the big sense of satisfaction I'd get each time I got some worthless asshole back to the safehouse in DR1.

I see what you're saying, but I prefer the new system so far

For example, its nice to have the cowboy and cowgirl survivors following me around and shooting zombies while I carry the drunk ass party girl on my shoulder back to the safehouse

also, I want to bang the Asian-American reporter, she is hot

I have about 24 hours left in the game, so far so good. I feel like the world is so expansive now that it's harder to track exactly where all the various weapons are located around the place. Also I thought Zombrex would be harder to come by.

And I like that you get combo cards from leveling up, find them around the world, and also you can find some by making your own. So far I'm really liking some of the combos, but haven't even made half of the combos for the combo cards I've gotten.

Finally finished up my first play through. Managed to get ending: S and 21 survivors. Definitely going to have to play through again now that I'm leveled up a bit so it'll be a little easier. Thought the fights got progressively easier and the last couple of bosses were fairly easy.

So, is there a reason why you can't give that chick in the safe house all the zombrex and just have her give it to your daughter between 7-8? I've got like 3 and I'm locked into making sure I'm back each day. That's kinda lame.

So it looks like rewards for leveling are random. Sometimes it will boost an attribute, sometimes it won't. I'm almost level 30 now and my attributes are severely neglected. Like:

Attack: 2
Speed: 2
Life: 7
Items: 7
Throwing: 4

Based on memory. It seems like I get one attribute increase per 3 levels, and it also seems like I'll hit the level cap before all the attributes are full.

I know it's random because I've had to reload a save and when I leveled before the reload it boosted a stat point. Leveling after the reload didn't. I guess I should have been saving right before leveling and reloading if I don't get a stat point. Problem is I typically only level after a psycho encounter, so I don't feel like repeating a boss fight 12 times to get the random benefit.

I have to say this was one of the worst games I have played in a while...on the up side I got $32.04 trade in credit at gamestop and I only spent $40 for it used so I cant complain to much I don't guess.

I tried playing this game but quit it after 3 days or so. I just absolutely loathe time-restricted games. Especially in games where there is a good amount of exploring you want to do. I always felt like I wanted to try exploring some areas but I would miss time-based events if I didn't run directly to them. And then there were parts of missions that forced you to explore (I'm looking at you survivor in the food court). You know they are close, but they are cleverly tucked away somewhere. I had to load several times before I found them (mediocre camera angles didn't help).

I'd prefer if there were clever mechanics or secrets to trigger events so that a player could have a dual-sense of accomplishment for finding and completing a missing. Instead it felt like they said, "Screw it, here is a timer and an arbitrary list of things you can only do now".

Also, the zombie fighting was fantastic and interesting, but the bosses that I fought were kind of dumb. Ranged weapons didn't do much damage and melee weapons often guaranteed you'd get hit in return due to boss invincibility frames. Some of the combo items probably would have helped. In the end, it felt like the combat system was designed around carving out giant groups of zombies, but players were forced to use the same system for nimble bosses.

In the end, it seemed like a fine game, but it was certainly not for me.

Been playing a bit and it is fun, but I go off to find these survivors and bring them back only to have the main mission pop up and tell me to get back to the Safe House (NOW!), but even if I book it straight there, I do not make it in time and I fail the game basically. The time restraints are just stupid
