Well yeah. You can't have those concealed assault knives just available for anyone to purchase. Especially not without a background check. Besides, what do you need a knife for anyway? If we got rid of all the knives, there would be less killing and stabbing and we would all live peacefully. Studies show that if you have a knife in the home, it's more likely to hurt you or a family member rather than solve a problem. Boy Scouts are just a front for the Knife Lobby anyway. Only police and the military should have knives. [Edited on February 7, 2009 at 11:45 PM. Reason : afg]

2/8/2009 12:12:54 AM
Thank God!Now they need to look into those damn kitchen knives! And I've heard those cracks in the sidewalks are not good for your mother's back.
2/8/2009 12:23:48 AM
How stupid can an elected body be, and how stupid can the voters be that put them there? This is almost as dumb as the so-called "stimulus" package that the idiots in Congress are working on. It's time to start voting some of these assholes out, but the voters are too hooked on the pork.
2/8/2009 12:26:21 AM
Also, how does this not violate the 2nd amendment? If they can by an idiotic stretch be considered to be "dangerous weapons", how is it that they could also not be considered arms that one might bear as per one's rights to bear arms?
2/8/2009 12:32:16 AM
STAB HOWLIE!
2/8/2009 1:08:00 AM
i role out with a three inch folding blade in case i have to defend myself when i go downtown wilmignton. This is absurd. All this will do is guarantee the law abiding people don't have pocket knives while the criminals do. If i get jacked by a knife wielding thug in HI; i should be like here's my wallet man but pocket knives are against the law I'M TELLIGN!!
2/8/2009 2:38:54 AM
I love liberals, they are so delightfully retarded

Im waiting now for some poor woman to get raped cuz she cant have a simple weapon to defend herself.
2/8/2009 9:17:26 AM
I love Hawaii and would move back there in a heartbeat....but their politics are like the crazy family down the street that you can always point to and say 'At least we're not those guys'.
2/8/2009 10:02:21 AM
oh damnit and, for your hard-line e-repubs who STILL think a person's political stance can ONLY be white or black, here's this gem.I am VERY against this. I am also FOR concealed carrying with a permit.I am also VERY liberal.OH NO I BROKE THE FUCKING MATRIX BECAUSE I CONSIDER THINGS ISSUE BY ISSUEALERT WRAL

I can kind of see why this would happen. If you grew up wealthy enough to become a politician, there's a pretty good chance you never had to do manual labor that would require such a thing. This is pretty funny, actually.

I'm trying to find it, but there is a minimum length of blade that is required to kill someone in most situations. Clearly, if you cut them in 1000 places they will bleed to death, but I'm talking about in one or two short motions. Also, there is a book called "On Killing" which states that the physically closer you are to someone when you kill them, the mentally (and at times physically) harder it is to kill someone. In short, it hypothesizes that it takes a dysfunctional, fucked up motherfucker to kill someone with a knife. It is a bloody, messy situation. Most people will not do it. This knife ban is a stupid gesture.

It's pretty obviously a tongue-in-cheek post.
2/8/2009 2:48:22 PM
How do you even effectively kill or maim someone with a pocket knife? Without even a locking or fixed blade, you're more likely to accidentally close the blade on your own fingers or hurt yourself in some other similar manner than to severely injure the other individual. You're more likely to kill someone with a metal chopstick or a corkscrew.

Oh yeah. My parents use them instead of wood because they're easier to clean. They do feel a little different from their wooden and plastic counterparts though.

^ get off it. you know that the vast majority of liberals and democrats would disagree with this ridiculousness. The ones who agree with it are probably comparable to the amount of Conservatives who think citizens should be allowed to own missile launchers or fully equipped Abrams tanks. btw, i noticed in Chit Chat you may lose your government job. I guess your only hope is that some big-government "tax and spend" liberal saves your ass.

can i own a slightly less than fully operational abrams tank?

Hawaii hasn't moved to do anything. One idiot wants the State of Hawaii to move to ban pocket knives. This is a bill that won't even get a committee hearing.

I officially declare shenanigans on the State of Hawaii

No, what matters is that there is an elected official out there, that truly and honestly believes that pocket knives, the same thing they issue to cub scouts around the word, represent a danger to society and need to be regulated and banned. It matters that our elected officials are getting so out of touch with the people that they seriously consider this a worthwhile effort on their part. And yes, this is one crazy state official, but its representative of a trend. You may think it's far fetched that something like this would ever be taken seriously, but just remember that less than 100 years ago, our representatives enacted a tax on fully automatic weapons because they didn't think they could legally outlaw a particular type of weapon. These days representatives don't even blink an eye before making something illegal. 50 years ago, they would have told you you were crazy to suggest that governments would ban smoking in bars, not so today.

At least pocket knives, as defined by the Hawaiian bill, actually kill people. The only reasons I can see for the throwing star ban are racism and basing reality on ninja movies. And Ihara wants to make pocket knife possession a misdemeanor, not a fucking felony.[Edited on February 11, 2009 at 9:55 AM. Reason : California wins the crazy contest]

Any weapon control law is retarded. Except in this case, if pocket knifes are banned and I'm stealing/buy illegally my lethal weapon, I'll probably just skip the pocket knife and go to something more dangerous. If you outlaw pocket knifes, only the outlaws will have guns.
