How do you become a part of these? Do you have to start off as a street police officer?Have to work your way up through the SBI?
2/7/2009 4:27:37 PM
apply for the fbi and go to quantico
2/7/2009 4:29:22 PM
No you don't have too, but if you have a MS in Criminal Justice you can be a federal agent with no prior experience. I know this for a fact, because I know someone that is an Agent and took his position IMMEDIATELY after completing his MS.

2/7/2009 4:35:22 PM
for the CIA, you usually get recruited
2/7/2009 4:45:37 PM
you've come to the right place. i own and operate all three of those institutions. please, come in.
2/7/2009 4:50:51 PM
like they said, advanced degree or street experience.
2/7/2009 5:15:17 PM
if i was trying to get into the fbi i would probably get a degree in accounting or something similar
2/7/2009 5:17:20 PM
They are watching you...Fbi Apply.Cia apply.DEA ? I guess apply.
2/7/2009 5:19:19 PM
recently the FBI was having, i think, the biggest hiring blitz in their history for all sorts of positionsi think most of the "cool" jobs in those organizations are knowing someone who knows someonemy bfs dad was a navy SEAL then an FBI agent, to be sure being a SEAL gave him the type of experience the FBI was looking forstart out somewhere and stand out
2/7/2009 5:22:34 PM
I am about to send an app to the United States Secret Service and see what happens.
2/7/2009 5:22:43 PM
2/7/2009 5:23:27 PM
Being a SEAL just helped by having a security clearance mostly. Physical requirements were WAY beyond what is need to be an Agent. He might have knew someone too.
2/7/2009 5:27:46 PM
^ thats what im getting at... part of it is knowing peopleand security clearance is also handy now that you mention it
2/7/2009 5:31:17 PM
I was just at Border's earlier reading a book on Military Special Forces, and a Navy SEAL back in WWII was put the muthafucking test like you wuoldn't believe. I am sure they still have to be very very tough, but technology helps them out now. Just imagine free diving by YOURSELF to plant a explosive charge with only a knife, goggles, sneakers, and swimming trunks on. They are really hardcore.
2/7/2009 5:35:22 PM
Or you could do it like Frank Abagnale Jr. and be such a fantastic criminal that the FBI's only logical option after catching you is giving you a job...
2/7/2009 5:38:31 PM
If you decide to apply, just do your homework. Know what they want, what will disqualify you, and what the job actually does. A lot of people getting blinded by the big letters and think they will be doing Jack Bauer stuff all day when 90% of the job is staring at a computer.
2/7/2009 5:41:25 PM
yeah SEALs are pretty hardcore, his dad is in his mid-60s so im sure he went through some crazy shithe has the most outrageous stories between the two careers, its awesome
2/7/2009 5:41:32 PM
My dad was a solider in Korea, and let me tell you, he saw lots of blood and dismembered humans.
2/7/2009 5:47:53 PM
i meant outrageous as in entertaining, not as in dead bodies
2/7/2009 5:57:15 PM
I knew what you meant.
2/7/2009 6:00:54 PM
If you've smoked weed in the past, that will disqualify you from the FBI. They're still pretty uptight about that.
2/7/2009 6:12:22 PM
it's not too surprising but this thread sure is full of a lot of i think with very little factual information pertaining to anything close to the topic at hand - gg twwersthey all have websites that you can apply to online...how much more straightforward do you want?some of them even recruit for co-op positions at ncsu ]]
2/7/2009 6:17:50 PM
^^not true at all, but that is what they want you to think
2/7/2009 6:19:31 PM
If you did drugs as 'kid' and be honest about it, they will take that as you are a person on integrity. I would say I would not lie at al because once you lie and get caught you are banned for life from ever working for them. The buddy I know that is now a Agent his WHOLE family got busted for drugs when he was a kid... You think he has utterly spotless clean nose? i don't think so.
2/7/2009 6:28:26 PM
^^ Really? I know it doesn't disqualify you from getting a security clearance, but I thought the FBI was still stubborn about it. The More You Know, I guess.
2/7/2009 6:33:02 PM
You seriously can't believe that everyone with a security clearance, including FBI Agents, has never used drugs.
2/7/2009 6:35:05 PM
i think the FBI's "limit" is 10 uses of marijuanaif you've done it less than 10 times you're legitmore than 10 and you can't be trusted
2/7/2009 6:43:52 PM
Haha that's too funny. I smoked weed 11 times and I just might give intelligence to foreign people that want to hurt us, or I might just steal something or I just can't be trusted because LOL.Any muthafucker that can tell you how many times they smoked weed can't be trusted in my book.Either you tried it once and didn't like it, or you continued to smoke weed and stopped or still smoke. What's the cutoff on hits of acid?
2/7/2009 6:51:35 PM
^^^^No, I specifically said that it doesn't disqualify you from getting clearance. Did the weed cloud your brain?[Edited on February 7, 2009 at 6:52 PM. Reason : carets]
2/7/2009 6:51:50 PM
^^I would assume 0 times for a hard drug. But you could in theory do a drug -1 times!^ I said including FBI Agents man, come on now, just review basic reading comprehension skills and you should understand.[Edited on February 7, 2009 at 6:53 PM. Reason : /]
2/7/2009 6:52:34 PM
^ you just blew my mind, maaannn
2/7/2009 6:53:54 PM
OK you win. Lets continue to talk about how ornery the FBI is.
2/7/2009 6:55:03 PM
Knowing that drugs don't disqualify you from clearance would suggest that no, I don't believe everyone with a clearance has never done drugs.
2/7/2009 6:55:38 PM
I am all for places recruiting trustworthy people, but smoking pot at a low frequency that you stopped over 5 years doesn't make you untrustworthy.
2/7/2009 6:58:21 PM
seriously just be honestthey're going to interview people who know you personally so dont try to cover shit upmy ex was applying for an agent job with the SBI and i was interviewed for a good hour about him
2/7/2009 7:02:45 PM
That what I said earlier, just don't lie.
2/7/2009 7:04:41 PM
If you have the ambition to get a law degree it is a great way into the FBI.
2/7/2009 7:12:55 PM
you should run into their office with a gun, subdue everyone, and they will be so impressed by your skills, they will hire you, let me know how it goes in 25-life
2/7/2009 7:25:46 PM
they all have a process to apply on their websites, so I'd start there. Not sure about the DEA, but last time I read the FBI and CIA sites, they were requiring a bachelor's degree.
2/7/2009 10:31:35 PM
This is my back up plan...when I graduate from law school and if God really hates me and I can't pass the bar...FBI, SBI, DEA, CIA are second options.
2/8/2009 6:55:50 PM
Again. Do research. All the agencies named in this thread have very different missions.[Edited on February 8, 2009 at 8:37 PM. Reason : Good Call]

There is a special place in hell welcoming those in the DEA.Just above ALE, Predatory Tow Truck Drivers, Hitler's Gestapo, and child molesters.I have heard part the big deal the FBI has with drugs is not (as long as you are truthful) fearful of integrity if it was during your youth. The problem is it makes you susceptible to blackmail and extortion depending on who your enemies are.[Edited on February 8, 2009 at 9:05 PM. Reason : jk]

2/8/2009 10:09:44 PM
u must not have worked there very long
2/8/2009 10:19:52 PM
if you have used within the last 3 years, don't apply.if you haven't/are honest about it and you can pass a polygraph (not hard), then pass a thorough background check with interviews, you should be golden.if they feel that you, as a past user of drugs, are not worthy of working there, thems the breaks.there are a bunch of rumors about hair follicle testing and all that and it's false. costs too much to use on every applicant.[Edited on February 8, 2009 at 10:32 PM. My brother-in-law was eliminated from the late stages of the FBI hiring process when his finger was destroyed during an arrest in his current job (the finger is extremely disabled and on his shooting hand and since he was going to be a field agent it pretty much ended everything). He had to go through three rounds of lie detector testing... they wanted extra testing to cover some weirdness during the "have you ever purchased illicit drugs" questions (he was head of a NARC team for a few years and did LOTS of undercover purchasing of drugs). If you want a job with action then you better have your shit together. A good option would be to get some experience with someone like the ATF or SBI. My sister left being a detective on the force to take an inspection job with the ATF (she doubled, nearly tripled, her pay and no longer has to carry a gun so its lower stress work: just dropping in on pawn shops, gun dealers, etc).
