Ok, I don't want to just make a new thread with a dumb as question that I'll get flamed for. I don't want to post this in the last game thread, or create a new game thread. I don't want to post this in the Lowe credibility watch. Lock this thread if you want, but I'll start off with...If we win the rest of our games except for @unc and @wake and finish 9-7, would we make the tourney? or would we need a win or two in the acc tourney. Face it, we have VT's number the last few years. We get WF at home and they are shaky of late. At GT. If we run those, 5-5. Then (besides UNC and WF) UVA at home, maryl at home and bc at home. Then finish off with miama away who we've beaten. I think it's possible, but obviously a stretch.Thoughts? Also, is anybody going to step up and be a leader for the rest of the year? Last few games, at least fells is shooting well, but he's not a leader.
2/5/2009 4:59:41 PM
Fells last 3-games averages: 20 Pts55% FG%59% 3%!5 Rbs(and only 6 total TOs)Hopefully he'll keep that up. I'm not holding my breath.[Edited on February 5, 2009 at 5:02 PM. Reason : ]

we're going to win the acct and push asu off the bubble.

2/5/2009 5:20:19 PM
It all depends on our big men (Big Ben, Costner, Smith, and even Horner). Our offense seems to run a lot smoother when we feed the post. If the bigs dont perform and specifically rebound we have no chance against some of the better teams. That said its not impossible to finish at 500
2/5/2009 5:24:55 PM
2/5/2009 5:25:37 PM
^^^ i didn't say it was going to happen, I merely said it was possible. I'm just tired of people giving up on the season, when I see way more talent in this team than what they've shown in acc play. Don't forget the close loses early in the season to teams that were or are top 25.^ sure, why not lol^^ is the acc strong enough to let an 8-8 team with one acc tourney win in the ncaa?[Edited on February 5, 2009 at 5:27 PM. 2/5/2009 5:25:52 PM
^^^ 8-8 ACC or .500 overall?^ keep the faith man. But it will NOT happen. If we finish with a 9-7 record then I request to be permanently suspended.[Edited on February 5, 2009 at 5:27 PM. Reason : .]
2/5/2009 5:25:59 PM
9 wins. lol.lock this shit, we have plenty of avenues for only one or two arguments already.
2/5/2009 5:26:13 PM
We did blow the games against Florida, Davidson, and even FSU. They would have been three big wins with to make up for our easy out off conference schedule
2/5/2009 5:29:03 PM
7-9 or 8-8 maybe if we get lucky and continue to improve. but 9-7 is a pipe dream
2/5/2009 5:31:29 PM
^ 7-9 would definitely be over achieving.. I put us at 4 or 5 ACC wins.what if we go undefeated the rest of the season and win the national championship? It's definitely possible.
2/5/2009 5:34:15 PM
2/5/2009 5:35:30 PM
^^it could happen, we might need John Wall to commit and somehow be eligible this year... along with Favors and Cousins... and maybe Josh Powell but seriously. yeah it would be overachieving but that's why i'm saying we'd have to get lucky. 6 wins wouldn't be too much overachieving though]
2/5/2009 5:37:34 PM
Well this thread could be useful to predict out the rest of the season. So we are 2-5 now, here's my predictions:L - @ Virginia TechL - Wake ForestW - @ Georgia TechL - @ North CarolinaW - VirginiaL - @ Wake ForestW - Maryland (being generous here after watching them put up 91 on UNC the other night)L - Boston CollegeL - @ MiamiThat would put us at 5-11.[Edited on February 5, 2009 at 5:48 PM. Sadly enough 5-11 wouldn't surprise me
2/5/2009 5:54:25 PM
it's not a surprise at all, it's actually what Kenpom forecasts. I'd say best case 7-8 wins, but no team is invincible as last night's round of upsets attests. When we play our best game we can run with most teams, but our cold starts and performance on the road doesn't bode well for salvaging the season.
2/5/2009 6:27:23 PM
^kenpom says we lose to GT and beat BC, but pretty much the same ending
2/5/2009 6:29:03 PM
I'm predicting one more win, probably against UVA. I would be absolutely shocked if we get to five.
2/5/2009 7:54:14 PM
Tyrese Rice will run train on us......like he already did or did ya'll miss that game???

ok, with a crummy loss, it looks like the season may keep handing the pack the L. But the good news is that we play wake at home. There is no reason we should be destroyed in this game. If we come out with intensity and keep the game close, we'll have a chance. This is our last chance of the season of scoring a big upset and I think we should be pumped up. There are a lot of reasons to not give up on this team yet, even though it is tempting. We need a push, so that we can be as strong as possible when ACC tourney play starts. Or if we can get some W's it would be nice to see us in a NIT, which could be a stretch.

If we keep playing solid ball I think we could win 4 of our last 6 games, with at least one stellar performance over Miami, WF, or UNCBC is also a game I'd worry about if Tyrese goes off and we can't contain himBut what do you think our chances are with a 7-9 season and one or two deep in the ACC Tourney?
2/14/2009 3:53:16 PM
Looked into some recent stats and found: Over the last 5 games, the pack is averageing 83.4 PPG. Tracy Smith is averaging 10.2 PPG, 6.4 RPG, and 22.8 MPG.
2/14/2009 4:03:06 PM
We'd have to get to 8-8 to even be considered. That said, no way we get to 8-8.6 wins most likely, 7 is optimistic
2/14/2009 4:03:31 PM
7-9 with one or two wins in the tourny not enough to get into the NCAAs with our non-conference losses
2/14/2009 4:04:03 PM
let's face it, barring a miracle we aren't going to make the tourney. had we won those close games against davidson, marquette, and florida we'd have a little more breathing room but still not much.at this point we need to either win the acct or win out in the remaining schedule. maybe if we finished 9-7 and went deep in the acct we'd be on the bubble? i don't know, just my take.
2/14/2009 4:18:25 PM
anything 8-8 or less, and we have to win the tournament. we have one "resume" win and that was against a sliding WF team. other than that we are currently 1-5 against top 25 teams and have only 1 road win against GT. This is not a team that is going to the tourney unless the last 6 games are much different[Edited on February 14, 2009 at 4:21 PM. Reason : ,]
2/14/2009 4:21:07 PM
Probably our magic number is 6 wins before the end of the ACC tournament to have serious NCAA consideration at this point. And I guess 2 wins for the NIT?^ I'd be shocked if we went 8-8, got to ACC finals, and didn't get into the tourney. We would have won 9 of our last 12 games in that scenario.[Edited on February 14, 2009 at 4:37 PM. Reason : .]

so, it's been a while since we've won away at UNC. This is a really good time for our club to take on a challenge. We've gotten good guard play, solid bench play (sometime horner), a starting lineup to stay, we're stroking the ball well, and fergie isn't seeing any minutes (sorry ferg, but we keep winning without you). Not to mention we're putting up almost 20 more points a game than before this lineup. If we can limit the TO's we can hopefully be in the game at the end. How fun it would be to play spoiler at chapel hill.
2/14/2009 6:21:39 PM
oh, it would be really fun. but so would winning the lottery and thats about what our chances are of walking out of chapel hill with a W.
2/14/2009 10:44:47 PM
i think people are putting too much emphasis on records and not enough on end of season finishes. we finish with more wins than losses towards the in and we are in, 7-9 or not[Edited on February 14, 2009 at 11:22 PM. Reason : wow i spell good]
