thanks for the input! i ended up with unrarx, after reading about it working when stuffit didnt, i thought i'd save myself the trouble of figuring it out later. i'll report back on how it worked after the download goes through!

unrarx is unnecessarily bloatedi'm tellin ya, go get the unarchiver

^how is it bloated? Seems to do exactly the job its there for and it supports par checking

does 7zip do multiple formats?

Unrarx is the opposite of bloated.

well i'd hope for no smart ass remarks since i dont make myself to be some computer whiz or anything. i know enough to get around and now and then i need help with something newi used unrarx and it worked fine. now i'll uninstall it and go on with my life. but i did have a weird (to me) event. my start up disk was full like 4 times in a row and i kept having to restart my computer. it happens to me occasionally on my mac and (work) pc but after unraring it happened every time i had a transfer-- is this normal?

How can there be so many options here? It's not really a corner of the market that has very far to go (IMO). You double click the .rar file, it unrars, it creates a new folder. The end. What the fuck else is there to differentiate these multiple programs?
