nah, they've all proven that they can have success in big games while Larry has never been able to do shit (aside from meaningless regular season games)

^.288 batting average in 92 postseason games. with 13 homers and 47 RBI's. Not earthshattering, but i wouldnt say he "hasn't done shit"

maybe I should have said he didn't do shit in the World Series, where it truly matters

16 games...15 hits

Is there a major problem with having a .273 batting average?

[Edited on March 7, 2009 at 5:20 PM. Reason : How many Sox player have even played 16 World Series games?]

you're right. i can't think of a single member of the current Red Sox roster who has played in 3 World Series, let alone lost 2 of them

Is it his career .310 average, 400 homeruns, or MVP award that you think should be holding him back?

the .310 is his saving grace
the 400 isn't
the MVP is what it is (yes, I think Mac and Sosa got jobbed that year)

^400 homeruns, #3 ALL-TIME for switch hitters. thats not helping him? seriously??

Third basemen with 400+ homers

1. Schmidt
2. Matthews
3. Darrell Evans
4. Chipper

You're just being intentionally stupid here, right?

McGwire was fifth in MVP voting

Sosa was ninth

[Edited on March 7, 2009 at 5:59 PM. Reason : Chipper got 29/31 first place votes!]

400+ was quite an accomplishment in the 60s-80s

you gotta come with 500+ clean homers these days to be a lock

Did you see the part where exactly 3 third baseman in the history of baseball have hit more homers than Chipper?

don't get me wrong, Chipper had a nice year in '99

but Mark and Sammy saved the game with their back and forth HR battle. that's about as valuable as you can get

Neither did anything but hit homers though

Their teams finishing in the cellar probably didn't help their cause, either

I really don't understand why so many baseball fans are so apathetic to this. The players absolutely LOVE it and the baseball being played is pretty high quality for March.

Give me this over a split squad Nationals-Pirates game any spring...
