just finished my trial and it was a brilliant successby using my 1000w heater on a timer set for 3 hours before i leave for work, i have instant heat and save .32 gallons of fuel every day during warmupit costs $.39 in power a day, which the fuel makes up for, and the timer paid for itself in two weeks by not having to leave it plugged in all night

badass. i wonder if it would work for a car that isn't garage kept? would any savings be realized or would i be pissing in the wind b/c of the thermal loss from being outside?

^ mine sits outside i can't even fit it under the carport

is this a block heater or just a ceramic heater in the cabin?

I'm surprised that timer can handle 1000W. I'd plug it in far from your house in case it pulls a Ford and catches fire.

what's your setup?this interests me.
1/18/2009 11:52:40 AM
you burn 1/3 gallon idling for warm up every day? damn dude, where do you live, siberia?
1/18/2009 1:27:37 PM
diesels need that
1/18/2009 1:31:51 PM
^^ that is during cold driving, diesels do not reach full combustion when cold, you have less power and dump raw fuel
1/18/2009 3:01:36 PM
oh word, that makes sense.

For when you don't park near an outlet:http://www.webasto.us/am/en/am_auto_heaters.html

my powerstroke needs the block heater plugged in just to start period if it's much colder than freezing. in it's defense, i think there's something wrong with the glow plug preheating system. it didn't used to be such a bitch.

1/20/2009 9:29:21 AM
i never had a problem with 20 degree starts with the ol duramax
1/20/2009 9:35:29 AM
^^^^ that's what my civic's for
1/20/2009 9:53:07 AM
^^^^yeah, i've already replaced 4 injectors and 1 injector wiring harness over the past few years. probably should have just done them all at once, but oh well. bitches are $texas. it was a great engine up until the last 20k miles or so (140k total), but it's nickel and dimed me to death since then.the b59 cummins in the bus i used to have and the m11 cummins in my current toterhome don't care what temp it is or how long they've been sitting. as long as the batteries have a charge, they crank on the first hit.
1/20/2009 1:36:08 PM
haha fucker. gotta diagnose my heater problems soon, then buy some new batteries my jump box has been reliable, though

BLOCK HEATER VINDICATION
1/21/2009 8:42:11 PM
^^why yes it most certainly is a people heater, but it also cycles warm coolant through the engine.I was only thinking about these because a customer in Canada ordered their recent trucks with the TSL17's[Edited on January 21, 2009 at 9:12 PM. Reason : and no, I never meant that it was the same as a block heater]
