for my laptop (dell)...i've found a few, and i've looked at newegg, amazon, buy.com and a few other sites, but the keywords i type in don't bring up much. any recomendations? how are lite-ons? i need plug and play compatability. i'm no good at tackling computer problems. thankshttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106279http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118006[Edited on January 17, 2009 at 9:08 PM. dont most laptops have cd/dvd/blu-ray/hd-dvd drives that are easily removable?

yep, but they are proprietary designs/doors/covers.[Edited on January 18, 2009 at 12:03 PM. Reason : some of them anyway.]

dell inspiron 6400i've read some of the reviews on newegg and it seems that they are plug and play. maybe the new one comes with some generic instructions? i can take things apart and put them back together pretty easy, i just want to avoid software problems.

just make sure you get the correct interface - some are SATA, the majority are ATA. yours is ATA.the connector will only go on one way, you can't really screw it up.http://www.ahwee.com/how-to/how-to-disassemble-laptop-insp6400look at step 2]

yes, it'll work.just make sure it's the same physical size as your existing drive (most are the same size) and you're good
