This is going to go well. If David Lynch can't do it, Peter Berg has no chance.

goddammit, they should just stop tryingbecause right now i'm skepticalthen details will leak and i'll get my hopes upand then it will be complete asshole

So much of the book is internal thought and backstory it would be hard to make it box office successful.

I won't get my hopes up. The Sci-Fi Channel version was decent (6 hours). The Sci-Fi Children of Dune was great (Messiah + Children in 6 hours).I really don't see how it can be done in 2-3 hours without leaving out way too much information.

i like the david lynch version

Why make this film? The SciFi one was great.

Dune really isn't a movie you can sit and watch in 3 hrs.The art of the book is in its subtle intrigue which would take an amazing cast and director to pull off.

this is bound to be an epic failure.

thank youwhile I won't go so far as to say it's "awesome", it is good, overalland some of the scenes are ridiculously beautiful and well doneworks of art[Edited on January 12, 2009 at 3:20 PM. Reason : .]

some of the novels his son wrote would be pretty good as movies. I thoroughly enjoyed all the house books and the butlerian jihad ones.

who cares, it's Dune

the real issue i see here is the 2010 release dateunless PETER BERG has spent a few years working on a dune movie on the off-chance he'd get to adapt it...

OMF STING

This will be an abysmal failure.

I thought Dune Messiah was one of the better books in the series. I'm reading Heretics right now...and it's a little dry for me.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. It is the little death that brings total obliteration.I'm Big Business and i approved this message.

the Lynch version wasn't bad but the entire movie making process was a shitfest. Lynch said himself he wasn't given the freedom he wanted. the effects were pretty cheesy overall but it was like 1981 or somethingI loved the sci-fi miniseries. maybe this will be good. I have hopes.
1/13/2009 6:30:47 PM
^ agreed. the sci-fi channel version was really good.
1/14/2009 12:07:28 AM
Sci-Fi version was campy as hell. The David Lynch version was much better. If you are going to make a 2-3 hour movie from Dune, you have to make a movie in the spirit of the book not a direct translation from print to screen.

bout to watch the 1984 version of dune...hope it doesnt suck...was told by a few folks its worth seeing at least once

^it's telling that David Lynch's greatest failure is still loved by many
4/12/2009 7:09:50 PM
about 35 minutes in now and its pretty bad...probably wont be able to finish this one

I'm reading The Butlerian Jihad right now.Google it.

A couple of things:1) The David Lynch movie was not good.2) If you really appreciate Dune, then avoid the aborted fetus sold by Herbert's son. That entire ominus story arc is such unbelievable ass that it makes a mockery of the entire series.
