I need a trailer hitch for an 01 jeep cherokee by next weeken. I would like to rent one (is this even possible), but will buy one if necessary. I'd like a used one for financial purposes. I havent ever been to a salvage yard and was wondering if it was worth it trying to find a hitch there. I feel like i wouldnt have good luck, but thought id ask anyways?

wouldn't hurt to call around to a few junkyards. check craigslist also.

Is there just one specific hitch used for an XJ or are there multiple hitches that would work fine?

Reese makes a line of univeral fit hitches. I DO NOT recommend these though. I bought a nice hitch assembly down at Agri-Supply in Garner for about $120 for my tacoma. Make sure you get a trailer lights wiring kit too.

I have bought from http://www.etrailer.com/ a few times. Looks like they have one on sale for $149 and the install is pretty simple.

you can get a hitch and wiring kit from wally world or agrisupply for under $150what kinda fag drives a jeep, much less one without a poser hitch already on there?

me, fat asspreciate the suggestions. I'm going down to FL to pick up some wood working tools. I was told that not all will fit in the back of my jeep, but when i went down there, I would be able to use and take the trailer. good deal for me, but i'm low on cash....britta date fund will have to suffer i guess..[Edited on January 11, 2009 at 3:15 PM. Anyone have experience connecting the wiring harness from a trailer to the jeep?Needing some help
1/18/2009 3:10:20 PM
a wiring diagram would best i suppose. Any websites for these?
1/18/2009 3:15:53 PM
erik, i suppose you have a multimeter? easiest way is going to be just poke around behind your tailights to find the wires you need. i dont know how your trailer is, but you will have to go to walmart or somewhere and buy a matching plug for your jeep. if it is a small trailer, my guess is that there will only be a 4 wire plug.edit: i think 69 could get you a wirign diagram probably, see the alldata thread[Edited on January 18, 2009 at 3:51 PM. everything you need is behind the passenger tailight, i told you too much already, now get to hooking up random wires till it works
1/18/2009 9:34:37 PM
well, i messed around with the wires...I got both turn signals to work and the tail lights, but the break lights were a problem. When the break lights were hooked up they were always on and then the break lights for the jeep wouldn't work. Ended up having to take it somewhere to hook up which blew b/c i spent a few hours messing with it. FAIL. Oh well. I picked up some good shit which i'll post later. off to work. Thanks for the help!
1/20/2009 6:12:13 AM
well your problem is that you were messing with the break lights and not the brake lights
