What are some decent portable iPod speakers? Speakers that the wife could charge up (or use batteries), take to the beach, and have sitting beside her chair with the iPod plugged in?That is actually what I purchased her for Christmas, but they sent the box with the wrong charger/batteries, and the customer service for Sonic Impact is some of the worst I've ever seen. They refuse to answer emails, and after digging for a while and finding the phone number (not on their site of course), all of their voice mail messages are still talking about being out for the Christmas holiday. So I am returning this from the online store I bought it from, and not purchasing another Sonic Impact product.[Edited on January 6, 2009 at 4:52 PM. Logitech. Hands down the best among the reasonably priced ones.http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/ipod_mp3_speakers/Go for the $130 model, and the sound quality will blow you away. Go for the $200 model to have the best and some neat extra features.Bose makes 2 systems, one for $300, and one for $400, but I don't know if they deserve that price or not.http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/shop_online/sounddock_systems/index.jspWho/what is Sonic Impact anyway?

^ It's not a bad thing that the batteries in the logitech are not replaceable?I know I've had that problem with iPods in the past where the charge cycle would get so low, they "suggested" I buy another iPod.

This topic is relevant to me as well as I have been doing a lot of research on these. Seems that the BOSE has the best sounds but I can not rbing myself to spend that much on portable speakers...I also like the Logitech ones which I had not seen before! I did find a Sony that I liked that may work for ya...http://www.amazon.com/CD-Boombox-with-Ipod%C2%AE-Dock/dp/B000VW2VRM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1231300628&sr=8-1

i was given the Bose (300$ model) as a gift last year and my mom got the Logitech (130$ model) as a gift this yearafter listening to hers, the only real difference i noticed is that the Bose offers better sound quality at a higher volumethe Logitech sounds great and if you are just going to be using it to take to the beach or in other similar situations, i think you would be happy with itand saving roughly 200 dollars[Edited on January 7, 2009 at 1:17 AM. So did you buy anything? Here are the ones sold on Apple's site:http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_ipod/ipod_accessories/speakersThat reminds me, didn't Apple make their own system, called as iPod Hifi? Did they stop making them? Because they are not listed in the link above.

i dont know if they stopped making them, but i dont think it would be something that you would want to take to the beachin the neighborhood of $360and really, how good can you get that 128 kbps mp3 to sound?

Oh yeah, I wasn't suggesting that he buy it. I was just curious as to what happened to them. This is all I could find:http://www.apple.com/pr/products/ipod/hifi.htmlBut nowhere in the store section, or the products section of the website. So yeah, I guess they didn't sell! (why would they, considering you could get Logitechs for < $150)

I bought this one a couple of years ago, paid like $99 i think. Decent sound, works on power or batteries, and has an FM radio.
