When i start the car up, the car shakes and makes a clicking noise as i'm giving it some gas. at first, it was only doing it when the car started for 15 or so seconds, then it progressed into doing it slightly as i was driving and the car was heated up.now it's doing it a lot and the check engine light has come on. actually turned around and came home and got a ride to work this morning, so it's time to fix it my first thought was mass air flow sensor or spark plugs? any other ideas? i may have another mass air flow sensor from another truck i could borrow to test it, but wanted to see if you guys could help before i did the work.

take your truck up to advance or autozone, they scan codes for free.

i can't tell shit from that video, it sounds like the fan or flywheel hitting something, but that is probably just distortion in the recordingwhy don't you just let zxappeal take a look at it, i'll vouch for the negroanything that severe is either horrible rod knock, the fan or flywheel hitting something, an exhaust manifold blown the fuck apart, or a dropped valve, i wouldn't drive it at all until you figure it out

yeah - video was mainly for the sound - took it at night i'm in wilmington.]friend thinks it could be a bad valve lifter?clicking frequency is directly related to RPMs[Edited on January 18, 2009 at 8:38 PM. Reason : ]

you got something way worse than a lifter son
1/18/2009 9:33:15 PM
def not a lifter unless that video is totally worthless and sounds nothing like the problem..get zxappeal to look at it before you drive it anymore. sounds pretty f'in bad to me

took off fan belt - still clickedput in gear, held break, revved - still clickedunplugged a spark plug from each side - still clickedbusted rod we think i DID however buy a 97 tahoe WITH THE SAME EXACT ENGINE in perfect running condition (bad rear end) for $300 about 9 months ago - may just pay someone $3-400 to swap the engine?[Edited on January 19, 2009 at 5:24 PM. doo it[Edited on January 19, 2009 at 5:33 PM. Reason : and you mean rod or rod bearing? ]
1/19/2009 5:33:26 PM
rod as far as we know - coming from lower part of engine - cheaper to swap engines either way

friend's dad (god bless him) has done the following for me:found someone that will, for $550, take the engine out of good car i bought 9 months ago, remove mine, put in the good engine, remove the transmission from the good car to sell.i will then sell the transmission for $350 to a guy he knows that needs one.the same guy will buy my brush guard on the one i bought (don't know price yet). depending on price, i may just move over to my car.he's letting me use his trailer so i don't have to pay to tow them.god bless friends is $350 for my transmission a decent deal for the both of us? it's got 140k miles or so on it and works well.also, i'll keep the car i bought for parts, and when 6 months goes by where i don't sell any, i'll junk it and take $100 from them.
